INNOVATION PROPOSAL ON PROJECT CATALYST (CAtalysts of

Transformational and Advance Learning Yields for Science and Technology)

Title of Innovation:
PROJECT CATALYST:
Catalysts of Sustainable Transformation: Undertaking Steps to Promote
Sustainable School Culture

Name of Proponent:
JOVEL J. OBERIO
Principal I/Division Science Coordinator

School/Office, District, Division:

SPED High School

Innovation Time Frame: School Year 2023- 2024 and Onwards

Overview

The world has been involved in sustainable development for decades, even
before sustainable development was officially defined. An increasing consensus
is being reached that sustainability is a global issue and thus needs a global
response; therefore, all ethnicities, groups and countries are obligated to face
this challenge and make changes. Established in 2000, the MDGs mapped out
8 goals and 21 targets with the central objective to “eradicate extreme hunger
and poverty” by the end of 2015. The world has progressed in poverty
eradication, universal education, health care and other fields after decades of
international cooperation. In order to transfer the momentum of the MDGs and
complete the remaining tasks with more focus on the collaborative,
comprehensive and sustainable development of the economy, society and
environment, a new global plan to navigate humanity toward a more
sustainable path was developed during the UN Conference on Sustainable
Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012.
As part of a three-year effort involving UN Members, encompassing
millions of people from all over the world, at the United Nations General
Assembly in September 2015 the leaders of 193 countries unanimously
adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and proposed
establishing the SDGs. The universal, transformational and inclusive SDGs
describe the major development challenges for humanity and express the
overall objectives and directions in a certain area.

In the context of Division of Cadiz City based from the survey

conducted on the awareness on the integration of sustainable development
goals teachers, students, and other selected stakeholders shows little
knowledge on sustainable development goals. The proponent was convinced
that if the teachers, students, and external stakeholders are aware of
sustainable development goals and mobilize them in making the school as

sustainable school that advocates for 2030, 17 sustainable development goals

on its different programs and activities.
The proponent was also convinced that if the teacher was equipped
holistically in integrating sustainable development education in teaching this
will be a big step in producing learners who will be advocates for 2030, 17
sustainable development goals making them socially and environmental aware
and appreciate their value, value of others, and the value of the environment.

It is also obvious that school community partners/stakeholders have

little idea on this issues/universal target. A symposium, orientation and
livelihood training will capacitate them to be a contributory factor in achieving
the sustainable development goals. They will also become a potential partner
to help the school in becoming child-friendly, eco-friendly and sustainable
school.

Innovation Description

Project Catalysts (CAtalysts of Transformational and Advance

Learning Yields for Science and Technology). This innovation aims to
transform the school culture into a sustainable school that advocates the
realization of UN 2030 Agenda or the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Project CATALYST will create a team called Catalyst composed of the
school head, teachers, students, and external stakeholders that will intensify
the implementation of the program by conducting meeting, feedback giving,
and brainstorming. The proponent/school head will develop a Localized School
SDGs Manual that focuses in transforming the school culture into a
sustainable school that would model its practices on environmental
preservation, energy consumption, sanitation, water, livelihood and others by
involving the community in undertaking the steps.
One of the highlights of this innovation are the school extension programs
and partnerships with HEIs, LGUs and Private Groups in making the school a
sustainable school or a school that promotes green technology.

Goal Statement

Main Goal: To promote Education for Sustainable Development Goals in

the School by increasing the awareness and capacitating teachers, students
and school stakeholders in implementing SDGs related programs and
activities.
After the Implementation of the Project/Innovation (CAtalysts of
Transformational and Advance Learning Yields for Science and Technology) the
students, teachers and school stakeholders are expected to:
a. gain knowledge on the basic concepts, principles, conceptual framework
and competencies of global citizenship education;

b. create a localized SDGs Manual that focuses on execution of specific

activities in school and integration of SDGs in formal, informal and
hidden curriculum;
c. demonstrate strategies to strengthen school and community partnership
for the promotion of SDGs; and
d. establish school extension programs in partnership with HEIs, LGUs,
and private partners that advocates and initiates activities in promoting
Education for Sustainable Development in school and community.

A. Conceptualization Activities

In the context of Division of Cadiz City based from the survey conducted on
the awareness on the integration of sustainable development goals in teaching,
21 teachers in the SHS department shows little knowledge and competence in
integrating the said discipline to their respective lessons or subjects,
integration of other disciplines is very relevant since it hits the 1st indicator in
the COT-RPMS in which teacher should apply knowledge of content within and
across curriculum areas.

It is also obvious that school community partners/stakeholders have little

idea on this issues/universal target. A symposium, orientation and livelihood
training will capacitate them to be a contributory factor in achieving the
sustainable development goals. They will also become a potential partner to
help the school in becoming child-friendly, eco-friendly and sustainable school.

G. Progress Monitoring

There shall three (3) stages to monitor the progress of the project.

1. The Pre-Implementation Stage Monitoring

This is to ensure that all the needed preparations to set the

project are in place. This includes the conduct of series of
orientations to give technical knowledge to the persons involved
regarding Project CATALYST (Catalysts of Sustainable
Transformation: Undertaking Steps to Promote Sustainable School
Culture). A checklist shall be used for validation during the
monitoring.
2. The Implementation Stage Monitoring

This to monitor the initial gains of the project during the first
weeks of its operation. This is to fine out possible weakness of the
project to give to adjustments and improvements. The ME will be
embedded in the I-CARE Tool.

3. The Post Implementation Stage Monitoring

This is to ascertain the outcome or impact of PROJECT

CATALYST. This will serve as an assessment tool to assess if the
project has achieved its objectives. The data of the monitoring will
also serve as an input on the effectiveness and success of the
project. Another checklist will be used as a tool for the stage of
monitoring.
