BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This research was conducted to examine the underlying effect of jeepney

modernization to the students of University De Manila College of Arts and Sciences. This

study aims for awareness and preparation for possible when modern jeepney arrives. This

interesting-looking vehicle, known locally as a jeepney or jeep, is an inexpensive form of

public transportation in the Philippines. Jeepneys can stop anywhere along their specified

routes, which are often painted on their sides or displayed on their windshields, to pick up

or drop off passengers. Jeepneys are extended out to hold 15 to 25 passengers, feature

open ventilation from windows all the way along their side, and an open doorway for

convenient passenger boarding and alighting. Jeepneys are well-known for their vivid,

colorful paint jobs and glitzy ornamentation, to the point where over time they have come

to be seen as a symbol of the nation and its culture.

In Manila, jeepneys started operating in the early 1950s. They quickly turned into

a remedy for the post-war public transit issue. Filipinos stretched the American car to fit

more people and added a canopy to shield them from the sweltering heat of the

Philippines. The chairs were taken out and two benches put in their place, stretching

longitudinally on either side to create extra room for seating while leaving a small

opening in the center for the aisle. Drivers of jeepneys began to decorate their brand-new

cars with vibrant colors and whatever motifs that caught their fancy, including word art,

their favorite cartoon characters, images of the Philippine landscape, and sacred Catholic

iconography adhere to Katrina Escalona ( Sept. 11, 2017).

 The purpose of jeepney modernization, the initiative is intended to serve as a

springboard for bringing Philippine public transportation in line with international

standards by giving Filipinos access to a system that is secure, dependable, practical, and

ecologically sustainable ainable, Rodrigo Roa Duterte ( 2017 ). It adds increase of

employment across the industry, including that of mechanics, dispatchers, office workers,

and others. For a wider perspective the modernization of jeepney illustrates how the

modernization initiative will result in better-run, more structured organizations.

Additionally, it will put a stop to the boundary system that allowed drivers to work less

hours while still earning more money. Additionally, the modernisation initiative would

put in place a standard to optimize the advantages of contemporary jeepneys throughout

the nation. All jeepney engines should at the very least be LPG-powered, electronic, and

hybrid vehicles that adhere to PNS (Philippine National Standards). Other characteristics

to consider for a contemporary jeepney include having GPS, an automated fare collecting

system, and a CCTV camera. Furthermore, vehicles must be at least 15 years old to be

registered or driven according to Maria Victoria Viado ( March 06, 2023).

We the researchers have gathered information about this study. We want to gather

opinions and perspective about the uprising jeepney modernization through the students

of University De Manila, College of Arts and Sciences. This modernization of jeepney

may bring a major impact to student who chooses public transportion the jeepney day by

day. In this study will provide the respondents even with our readers to be more

knowledgeable for the uprising and the modernization of jeepney the passengers will be

more safe because of the strong policies and it is more convinient for the passenger by the

means of its hybrid engines and its brandnew features such as CCTV’s, Air-condition,
high ceiling and the doors will be on the right side of jeepney. Basically this are the

things they will look forawrd over the uprising modernization of jeepney, the famous

public transportation of the Philippines.
