depict?

____________6. When you see this graph below, what relationship between the variables can you
depict?
____________7. These are easier to see in a straight-line graph.
____________8. Quantities that are completely described by their magnitudes, appropriate units and
directions.
____________9. It is a single vector that, if substituted in place of several vectors to be added, would
produce the same combined effect of these vectors.
____________10. A property of addition wherein the grouping of vectors to be added may also be
changed without affecting the resultant.
____________11. A property of addition wherein the order of adding vectors may be changed without
affecting the resultant.

V. Vector Addition
A. Using Parallelogram Method
1. A balloon is rising vertically at 10.0 m/s. Wind is blowing from 30° N of west at 3.0 m/s.
Find the resultant velocity of the balloon.

B. Using Polygon Method

2. Use the polygon method for adding vectors to find the total displacement of a person who
walks the following three paths on a flat field. First, she walks 25.0 m in a direction 50.0º
north of east. Then, she walks 20.0 m heading 15.0º north of east. Finally, she turns and
walks 32.0 m in a direction 68.0° south of east.

C. Using Laws of Sine and Cosine

3. Compute the resultant R of the two forces force A = 3N North and force B = 4N 30°N of E.
4. Two forces, one twice as great as the other, have a resultant of 60 N directed north. Find
the forces (a) if they are acting in the same direction and (b) if they are oppositely directed.
5. A particle is being pulled by two forces: F1= 5.0 N, west and F2= 6.0 N, north. Find the
resultant force acting on the particle.
6. Vector A of a magnitude 10.0 cm, 73º south of east. (a) Find the horizontal and (b)
determine the vertical component of vector A.

D. Component Method
7. A jogger runs 5.00m 20.0° N of E, 4.00m East, 7.20m 40.0° S of W, 8.50 m S and then
collapses. Find his resultant displacement from where he started.
