Lesson 5- Draft 2

Ex 1:
The line graph illustrates how much fish, lamb, beef and chicken were consumed
between 1979 and 2004. In general, while the consumption of chicken showed an
upward trend, the figures for the remaining kinds of meat decreased. Another striking
feature is that the most dramatic changes were seen in the consumption of chicken.

Looking at the graph in more detail, we can see that about 220 grams of beef were
consumed per person in 1979 and this figure was even higher than the figures for
chicken(140 grams) and fish (60 grams) combined. The second place in terms of
consumption in 1979 was lamb, about 150 grams. After a period of 15 years, the
amount of chicken consumed saw an upward trend while the figures for fish, lamb
and beef went through a downward trend.

From that time on, beef consumption saw a plunge to nearly 100 grams whereas the
amount of lamb and fish consumed went through a period of mild fluctuation,
finishing at around 60 grams and 50 grams respectively in 2004. By contrast, the
figure for chicken experienced a slight increase to approximately 250 grams in the
year 2004. A noteworthy observation is that by 2004, chicken consumption had
become the most consumed type of meat.

Ex 2:
The line graph details the proportion of households who owned three types of
electrical appliances namely washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner in a
given country from 1920 to 2019. In general, ownership figures for all appliances
underwent upward trends with the most considerable growth in refrigerators. In
addition, both refrigerators and vacuum cleaners had risen to the top by the end of
the period.

To be more specific, 40 percent of households used washing machines and this

figure was even higher than those of refrigerators (about 2 percent) and vacuum
cleaners (30 percent) combined in 1920. After a period of 60 years, the percentage
of households with refrigerators and vacuum cleaners rose substantially to 100%
and 90% respectively while the figure for washing machines increased slightly before
declining steadily and finishing at nearly 65%.
From that time on, while refrigerator ownership did not change, the figure for vacuum
cleaners increased slowly to 100% and stayed at this level until 2019. Moreover,
washing machine ownership went through a steady increase and finished at
approximately 75% in 2019.

Lesson 7-Draft 1
Ex 1:
The table illustrates how many cars were produced in three countries namely
Argentina, Australia and Thailand from 2003 to 2009. In general, both Argentina and
Thailand witnessed an increase in production of cars, while production decreased in
Australia. Another striking feature is that Thailand was always the leading car
manufacturer in any given year.

To be more specific, Thailand manufactured 735,852 cars in total, which was around
three times as high as the number of cars made in Argentina, at 235,088 cars. In the
next three years, while both Argentina and Thailand car productions underwent an
upward trend, this figure for Australia decreased.

From that time on, the number of cars manufactured in Australia decreased to
around 245000 while the figure for Argentina increased to 486089, which was almost
double that of Australia. Despite falling slightly, the number of cars made in Thailand
was still the highest of all three countries, finishing at roughly 1 million cars.
