School Start Information

*School Day Schedule - 8:20am-2:40pm

 Early Drop Off program will begin the week of September 11th. A Sign-Up
form will be released. Program is free of charge, sign up is only intended to
get a sense of attendance for staffing.
 Early Drop Off- 7:50am on Irving Pl./Auditorium Entrance.
 Breakfast is eaten in the classrooms and free lunch is provided for all
students. Menus for each meal are listed on the DOE website:

*September 7th- First Day of School!!!

 Pre-Kindergarten- Staggered Schedule (Session 1: 9:00-10:30 & Session 2:

11:00-12:30)
o Parents remain with their children for the orientation session and
leave with their children.
 Kindergarten- Half Day 8:20-11:30
 Grades 1-5- Full Day

*September 8th

 Pre-Kindergarten- Half Day (11:30 Dismissal)

 Kindergarten- First Full Day

* September 11th- First Full Day for All Students

*September 13th- Start of Fall Clubs (Wednesdays) available for all students. Look
for signup on Konstella.

*Entry Spots-

 Pre-K-2nd Grade School Yard

 Grades 3-5- Sidewalk on Irving Pl.
 For K-5th Grade Signs will be posted and teachers will meet classes at the
designated spots. Pre-K will meet teachers at classroom door near playset.

*Dismissal Spots-

 Pre-K- Pickup at classroom doors within playset area.

 Grades K- 2nd grade- Pickup in the auditorium. Through the school yard.
 Grades 3-5- Students enter/exit from auditorium doors on Irving Pl.

*** Staff and signs will be posted to assist families for the first days of school!!!

* Late students after 8:35am should be brought to the main entrance on Gates
Ave. as the playground gates are closed after 15 minutes. Students whose parents
are late for pickup after dismissal remain in the dismissal areas until approximately
3:00pm and are then brought to the main entrance by the security desk.

* Families with siblings can use 1 entry spot. Staff and teachers will work to
accommodate families.

* We use a school communication app Konstella. We highly recommend families

register and get connected to your child’s teacher. For incoming families, during

whole school communication and PTA communication through the app.

play together in the school playground.

September 10th- Back to School Picnic 1:00-4:00pm PS 56 School Yard

September 14th- Parent Conferences (Evening Virtual)

September 18th: PTA Meeting 7:00pm (Via Zoom)

September 25th- No School (Yom Kippur)

October 9th- No School (Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples’ Day)
