PB4L - Positive Behaviour for Learning
Congratulations   to   all  the   wonderful   students   who   have   received   AIM   HIGH   cards
and   AIM   HIGH  prizes   at  your   House   assemblies.     It   is   fantastic   to   see   that   you   are
understanding   and   can   demonstrate  the   school   rules   and   values.     In   the   next   few
weeks  PB4L  will  focus  on  "respect  for  each  other  and  the  environment".    Staff  will
be  concentrating  on  the  issue  of  litter  and  rubbish  around  the  school  with  RESPECT
being  a  key  value.

Well  done  -‐  you  are  off  to  a  great  start!

SCHOOL RULES
Respect each other and the environment.
Let teachers teach and students learn.
Make school a safe place.

ELECTRONIC & DIGITAL ITEMS, GAMES, ETC

ALL  electronic  and  digital  items,  such  as  cell  phones,  ipods,  mp3  players  etc,  MUST
be  handed  into  the  Student  Centre  before  school  and  then  collected  at  3.00  pm.  If  a
student   does   not   hand   in   their   phone   etc,   and   it   is   found   by   a   staff   member,   the
item   will   be   confiscated   and   a   parent   or   caregiver   will   have   to   come   into   the   school
to   pick   it   up.     There   was   an   incident   recently   involving   a   theft   of   items   from   a
student’s  school  bag.

The  school  takes  no  responsibility  for  any  phone,  game,  etc  that  has  not  been  handed
in.

ABSENCES
After  roll  call  in  the  morning,  unexplained  absences  will  be  followed  up.    It  is  very
important  that  you  let  the  school  know  as  soon  as  possible  in  the  morning  that  your
child   is   going   to   be   absent.   You   can   leave   a   message   on   the   school’s   answer-‐phone,
send  a  message  through  the  link  on  our  website  www.pukekoheint.school.nz,  email
the  office  admin@pukekoheint.school.nz  or  email  your  child’s  teacher  directly.

YEAR 8 STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES
Week 6 – Tuesday 8 & Wednesday 9 March
The   Y8   students   will   be   inviting   their   families   to   their   classroom   where   they   will
discuss   their   learning   and   their   goals.     They   will   show   their   family   the   work   they
have  been  doing  in  their  classroom  and  how  they  use  the  resources  that  are  there.
These  conferences  are  led  by  the  students.    At  any  time  there  could  be  more  than
one   family   in   the   room.     If   you   have   private   things   to   discuss   with   your   child’s
teacher,   they   are   available   out   of   class   time   for   you   to   make   an   appointment   to
discuss  any  concerns  you  may  have.

PARKING AROUNG THE SCHOOL ROADS
This   is   just   a   reminder   to   our   parent   community   about   the   importance   of   keeping
our  students  safe  as  they  arrive  at  school  in  the  morning  and  leave  at  the  end  of  the
day.     Ensuring   good   visibility   is   essential   and   therefore   parking   restrictions   are   in
place.    From  time  to  time,  the  Council  and  the  police  will  monitor  around  our  school
and  they  will  issue  tickets  for  infringements.

Examples  of  infringement  costs  that  may  be  incurred  are:
Parked  on  the  footpath;  Parked  across  or  within  1  metre  of  vehicle  entrance;  Parked

This   year   sees   the   introduction   of   PB4L   (Positive   Behaviour   for   Learning)   to   our
school.   We   have   been   chosen   as   a   pilot   school   for   this   new   government   backed
initiative  that  aims  to:
 create  a  positive  learning  climate  throughout  our  school,
 increase  instructional  time  across  all  areas  of  teaching,
 identify,  explain,  model  and  REWARD  appropriate  behaviour!

The   PB4L   team   have   put   together   a   fantastic   programme   that   is   ready   to   be
implemented  across  the  school.  Our  initial  focus  is  on  learning  the  school  rules  and
understanding   what   these   mean.   The   values   that   we   will   be   focussing   on   are
EXCELLENCE,  RESPECT,  RESPONSIBILITY  and  COMPASSION.

The  PB4L  team  is  very  excited  about  this  school  wide  initiative  and  we  believe  it  will
make   Pukekohe   Intermediate   an   even   better   place   to   live,   learn   and   grow.     Come
along  to  the  AGM  and  learn  more  about  this  new  and  exciting  initiative!

A light supper of wine and cheese supplied
