EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Rooted from the alarming number of readers that belong to frustration
level, the school’s CI Team decided to prioritize minimizing the problem. From
2016 up to the present, still the road to address the issue on reading
comprehension level of the learners is the primary concern and focus. Though
there have been several changes as to its title, approaches and intervention; yet,
the attention still stuck to reading comprehension level of the students. Even
during the time of pandemic brought by COVID-19, the challenges and effort did
not stop. Moreover, additional interventions through the help of Brigada Pagbasa
Project T.R.I.N.I.E.R.A ( Timely and Realistic Implementation of New
Normal Trend and Improvised Enhancement of Reading Activities)
became the adapted intervention just to continue the team’s goal of enhancing
literacy of the learners. From its birth name as PROJECT C.A.R.E, next the
MOBILE. APP., PROJECT T.R.I.N.I.E.R.A., up to the present name as
REPAIR.App ( Reading Enhancement and Productive Activities for the
Improvement of Readers) the school’s vision and dream through continuous
intervention will always play a vital role and a compass in attaining quality
education.

Where were we BEFORE?
The Pre-Phil IRI results of the previous years were basis for the
birth the CI projects, as intervention for the aforementioned problem.
Basing from the focused problem, it was identified that most of the
Grade 7 students of Taft NHS belong to frustration level in terms of
reading comprehension. With these, PROJECT C. A.R.E. ( Computer –
Aided Reading Enhancement ), a software applet- based reading
intervention was intended to address the high percentage of students
under the Frustration level in reading comprehension as reflected in the
Enhanced School Improvement Plan of Taft NHS for Calendar Year 2016
– 2019.
Using the Reading Intervention Process Flow and with the software
applet, several realizations were identified after the first three years. These
were: Skills developed in the intervention activities were not fully aligned
with the skills required for Post Phil-IRI; the conduct of the Phil-IRI must be
digitized to sustain the

momentum influenced by C.A.R.E; there is a need to integrate reasoning skill
development activities in the software to fully achieved the required skills of
the readers in the Post Phil-IRI; and a full implementation of Roll – Out Phase
across all Grade 7 learners. With the improved process of the activity
flowchart, and the enhancement of the project into Mobile. App in 2019-
2020, the intervention somehow helped in providing reinforcement activities
through utilizing the applet.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the

use of the app was stopped, and
intervention still continued through the
PROJECT T.R.I.N.I.E.R.A.

Through the leadership of the CI

team, the Teami21 Century Innovators,
School Administrators, Parents and
Stakeholders, the project continues to its
peak improvement and enhancements
bearing the name as REPAIR.App.

Where are
we NOW?
For SY 2022- 2023, on the full implementation of the face-to-face
classes, the team enhances Project T.R.I.N.I.E.R.A. and changes it to
REPAIR.APP. This project focuses on the reading development of the
Grade 7 learners who are instructional, frustration and struggling
readers through Group Screening Test, Pretest using Phil – IRI tool,
application of reading volunteers and other stakeholders.
As to the Phil – IRI result, there were 32 (15%) Independent
Readers; 82 (38%) Instructional Readers and 103 (47%) Frustration
Readers. Reading interventions were already given from March-April
2023. The team is still on giving post – reading activity for the 60
struggling /frustration level readers; while the 32 independent readers
will undergo the reading activities using Mobile.App.

HOW did we do it?

This CI project uplifts and encourages the stakeholders to be part

in transforming the struggling and non-readers to even instructional or
independent readers as possible . By continuing and improving this
project, the PROJECT REPAIR.App focus on the improvement of non-
readers and frustration readers and instructional readers through the
schedule reading face to face intervention with the aid of stakeholders
and also the last application of reading intervention through software
applet crafted by IT specialist teacher.

Moreover, the CI team also make sure that every learner will attain
goal of becoming a reader through the use of this enhanced project.
Series of activites conducted in order to realize the goal set by the team
such were: Orientation of the Parents, Volunteers and Stakeholders;
Application of Phil-IRI tool in identifying struggling readers; and the use
of the Mobile.App or the applet to those struggling readers. PROJECT
REPAIR.App is expected to be effective in reading practices and drills,
especially in focusing to their recognition and comprehension level. Thus,
the faculty and staff of Taft National High School has been relying for this
project to progress as it continue searching and moving for better and
positive enhancements.

ALIGNMENT OF THE CI
PROJECT TO THE
DEDP 07

The crafting of the Annual Implementation for Calendar Year 2023

includes the CI project, REPAIR. App ( Reading Enhancement and Productive
Activities for the Improvement of Readers). This project is one of the
priorities for school improvement and aims to address the high percentage
of students under the frustration level in reading recognition and
comprehension.

The linkages of the CI Project to the School Improvement Plan is very

significant since the focus of the REPAIR.App does not only meant for Grade
7 learners, but also to the other year level. Moreover, the team plans to
widen coverage of this project through the conduct of a roll out and replicate
this activity to Senior High School.
