Traditions are about the past and innovation is about the future, and it has been argued that

we need
to let go of traditions for the sake of progress. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this?
What role should traditions have in our lives?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or
experience.

In the contemporary era, it is believed that advancement is not possible without leaving traditional
cultures in a society. However, I am not convinced with this school of thought and reckon that customs
do not pose any obstacle in the development. The upcoming paragraphs justify my viewpoint with valid
reasons and relevant examples.

The initial argument in favour of my stance is that, progress in this society is really possible without
leaving one’s own culture. It is because people understand their traditions in a better way which foster a
positive impact on their overall growth. For instance, language is a core part of any culture and it is a
fact that nations that promote education in their national language are extremely successful in research
work. Additionally, traditions have pivotal importance in our lives because they connect us to our roots
and flourish the concept of unity in the society. Thus, innovation goes side by side with tradition because
they strengthen each other.

Probing further, another important point is that some civilizations are losing their identity in the name
of modernization under the influence of western cultures. The reason for this is that, some individuals
think that wearing western outfits and following their life style is the symbol of success in life. In fact,
innovation means to explore new ideas and implement them for better results that is even possible by
wearing national dress. It means to say that it is not necessary to leave traditions for innovation as both
can co-exist. To demonstrate, it is fact that countries who promote their own culture always gain
success. Hence, customs are indispensable for the intellectual nourishment of the society.

To sum up and restate my opinion, although some people believe that traditions are hinderance in the
personal development , progress can be achieved by maintaining strong relation with once own culture.
