Nutrition Program beyond MDM
WE HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTING OTHER FEEDING INITIATIVES
THAT SERVE PEOPLE OF VARIOUS AGE GROUPS, REGIONS, AND
COMMUNITIES

• Feeding in Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) The intake of proper nutrition is a


significant contributor to good health for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and
their infants. The Foundation currently serves meals to beneficiaries in 3,170
AWCs across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and
Telangana.

• Breakfast Program for school children: Currently the program is in pilot run
across AP, Telangana, Karnataka & Tamilnadu.

• Akshaya Kalewa Programme Launched in collaboration with the Government


of Rajasthan, Akshaya Kalewa serves hot, cooked meals to the public at nominal
rates. The beneficiaries of this programme mostly comprise of the working class,
including daily wagers, rickshaw pullers, and factory workers.

Foundation and the Indian Institute of Science
Policymaking and advocacy for children's food security,
community participation, malnutrition eradication

➢ As the Foundation scales in the nutrition and food security


space, the focus on research is imperative.

➢ In partnership with the academic strength of the Indian


Institute of Science, the Foundation aims to develop a
knowledge epicenter with think tanks consisting of economists,
philanthropists, research scientists, government officials and
global institutes for building its efforts towards global advocacy
and ending classroom hunger and malnutrition.

WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME (WFP)

United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) in India, has partnered with The
Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF), a not-for-profit organization, to enhance the
effectiveness of the Pradhan Mantri – Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme
(earlier known as National Programme for Mid-Day Meal in Schools) .

The partnership aims to enhance food safety and hygiene projects, capacity building
of cooks-cum-helpers and nutritional quality of school meals. An agreement was
signed between Bishow Parajuli (pictured left), Representative and Country Director for
WFP in India; and Shri Chanchalapthi Dasa, Vice-Chairman, The Akshaya Patra
Foundation, on January 3, 2022 in New Delhi.
