The following calculation are based from Philippine Register of Shipping (PRS),
Rules for the Construction and Classification of Steel Vessel and Under 60 meters in
length for the classification of the proposed vessel.
Particulars:
Length Overall = 36 m
Length Between Perpendicular = 32 m
Breadth = 6 m
Depth = 3 m
Draft = 1.41m
A = 0.5 L + 2 cm2
Where = 0.5 L + 2 cm2
= 0.5 x 32 + 2 cm2
A = 18 cm2
Where:
L = Length of ship, in m.
SIDE KEELSON (PRS 2017, Ch. E Sec 5-5.04 C) pp.72
t = 0.05 L + 5 mm
= 0.5 (32) + 5
= 6.6 mm
Therefore use,
t = 6 mm
A = 0.2 L + 4 cm2
= 0.2 (32) +4
A = 10.4 cm2
Standard and Cant Frame Spacing (PRS 2017, Ch. E, Sec. 7-7.01) pp.87
S = 720 (L/100)1/4 mm
Where:
L = Length of ship, in m
S = 720 (32/100)1/4 m
S = 541.527 mm
Therefore us,
S = 500 mm
h = depth of floors
h = kB
Where:
k = 50; B ≤ 10 m
h = 50 x 6
h = 300 mm
t = thickness of floors
t = 0.01 h + 3 mm
= 0.01 x 300 + 3
t = 6 mm
A = 9.269 cm2
Note: Web thickness of floors within the machinery space is not to be less than that
of the center keelson.
t = 8 mm
t = tfloors
t = 6 mm
h = 250 mm
t @ 0.4 L amidship
t = 0.0063 s(√d + 2) mm, for L < 60m
t = 5.816 mm
Therefore use,
t = 6 mm
Where:
d = molded draft, in m
L = length of ship, in m
t @ bottom shell plating (including side shell plating) for 0.075 from the ends is not to
be less than:
t = (0.05 L + 5) √s/600 mm
t = 6.6 mm
Therefore use,
t = 6 mm
Where:
L = length of ship, in m
s = actual spacing of then end frames: when s is less than 600 mm it is to be taken
as 600 mm.
Side Shell and Sheerstrake (PRS 2017, Ch. E, Sec 3 – 3.02) pp.58
t = 5.44 mm
Therefore use,
t = 6 mm
Where:
s = spacing of frames, in mm
L = Length of ship, in m
d = molded draft, in m
b = width of sheerstrake
b = 870 + 4.5 L mm
b = 1014 mm
Where:
L = length of ship, in m.
t = 0.025 L + 5.5 mm
= 0.025 x 32 + 5.5
t = 6.3
Therefore use,
t = 7 mm
Where:
L = Length of ship, in m
t = thickness of second deck plating outside line of openings and within 0.4 L
amidships
t = 0.025 L + 5.5 mm
= 6.3 mm
Therefore use,
t = 6 mm
t = thickness of second deck plating inside line of openings and within 0.1 L at ends
t = 0.02 L + 5 mm
t = 6.14
Therefore use,
t = 6 mm
Where:
L = length of ship, in m

t = 36 mm
b = 435 mm
h = 3000 mm
