2.0 Literature Review

Training is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the
teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful
competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity
andperformance. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content
at institutes of technology.

2.1 What is Entrepreneurship and Training?

The word entrepreneur has come from the France word “entreprendra” which means to
undertake, to pursue opportunities to fulfill needs and wants through innovation to undertake
business. So entrepreneurship is the act of being entrepreneur…

Richard cotillion says

“Entrepreneur is the agent who purchased the means of production for combination into
marketable product”.
To be a successful entrepreneur training is very much helpful. So the term “training” is a process
where a person gets both practical knowledge and direction regarding a particular sector.

2.2 Relationship of Entrepreneurship and Training

Importance of entrepreneurship training is undeniable and is needed for our country as
well as other countries. According to studies the role and status of entrepreneurship it is clear and
doing them is among the main projects of Entrepreneurship development programs in countries.
The goals which education programs of entrepreneursare pursuing are:
Training of new entrepreneurs, guiding of entrepreneurs to learn needed professions and offer
necessary skills to them in order to increase their success in businesses that are starting.

Entrepreneurship training is a part of this entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship training a

series ofskills is taught to people who are: Before, during and after setting up business. Before
founding the companyor setting up business Entrepreneur must learn how to set up a business
and its processes and how to do ateam work and also communication skills. During launching the
work should obtain knowledge andnecessary skills in fields such as financial issues,

3
understanding the market, Management, Insurance,Economy, Labor Law and Legal Affairs.
Ability to manage growth and development, finding new ways, competitive and maintain position
in market and finding new markets are some of necessary skills forentrepreneurs after setting up
a business.

2.3 Why Entrepreneurship Training is Important?

Entrepreneurship education in the new economy should be the house of knowledge
provision, as opposed to a little room in the house. Entrepreneurship education in BD is not even
a room, but a little outside building. The result of this mindset is clearly reflected by the latest
GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) report. Our achievements are therefore less than half of
the average figure. The effects of the above non-entrepreneurial culture are also reflected in the
high unemployment and high crime rates in our country. Most of the Bangladeshi are looking for
jobs, which are becoming scarcer and scarcer each year. We are generally blind for the numerous
business opportunities, begging to be utilized.

We need to create a culture where entrepreneurship education becomes the house of

education, with other study fields, the rooms in this house. We need to realize that we are far
behind the rest of the world and have to catch up fast. School leavers, as well as graduates from
other tertiary institutions need to catch up on entrepreneurial skills. An entrepreneurship-training
course has become of critical importance for young people before embarking on a career path,
which will probably lead to nowhere. Big organizations are still downsizing and employees are
losing jobs on a continuous basis. Thousands of school leavers go abroad for a year or two; come
back and can’t find employment. Very few Bangladeshi are entrepreneurs whom create jobs –
most of us are skilled in something, but are job seekers. We drastically need to turn the situation
around. We need a situation where a critical mass of Bangladeshi emerges to the status of job
creators (entrepreneurs). The solution to this critical problem is, without a doubt, in effective
entrepreneurship education. Entrepreneurship education needs to be viewed as the highest
priority in our country. Bangladeshi also needs to realize that entrepreneurship education is not a
once-off affair, but a continuous process. We also need to understand that there are no limits in
developing our creative, innovative and entrepreneurial skills. The more we apply and practice,
the better we will get. The future is there for us to shape. What we do today, at this point in time,
will determine what the future will be like.

2.4 Types of Entrepreneurship Training Opportunities

Fortunately there are lots of different types of entrepreneurship training opportunities
ranging from a couple of hours that just covers the fundamentals of entrepreneurship to Masters
Degrees in Entrepreneurship.
 Entrepreneurship classes – include two to three hour classes at libraries or small business
week events which may consist of the speaker sharing his/her own entrepreneurship case

4
studies from their own experience to a longer series of entrepreneurship classes leading to a
an entrepreneurship certificate offered by colleges, universities and government
organizations
 Entrepreneurship degrees and Masters of Entrepreneurship – these are relatively new and
were created to reflect the growing demand for entrepreneurship training. Entrepreneurship
case studies will likely be studied. Most entrepreneurship degrees can be completed with
four years of full time study, while Masters of Entrepreneurship can typically be completed
within two to three years on either a part time or full time basis.

2.5 Importance of training

1. To improve job performance by enhancing employees knowledge and skill.
2. To prepare employees well competent to discharge the new responsibilities.
3. To impart skill how to operate the new machinery and equipments.
4. To reduce the wastages and accidents.
5. To build a second line for more responsible positions at a later stage.

2.6 Problems of training

1. A failure to identify the specific needs of learners and for learners to own their
own development needs
2. Objectives set by trainers, rather than the learners
3. Little acceptance by learners of the need to take responsibility for their own
development
4. Constraints of time for preparation and participation in learning events
5. A failure to follow through learning beyond an event or course
6. Failing to achieve high value via transfer of the learning

Conclusion

After completing the survey report we can say that training is important factor to start the
business. In past maximum entrepreneurs are not concerned about the importance of training. For
that reason many entrepreneurs were not survived in this competitive business world. That’s why
young entrepreneurs are more interested about training to run their business smoothly and
efficiently.

However the result of our survey report may be not quite enough to judge the accurate
situation but we are trying to focus the role of training to develop entrepreneurship in
Bangladesh.
