change with time of the
position or orientation of
a body.

LAW OF
ACCELERATION
What exactly is
Acceleration?
Speed

Direction
Acceleration
rate at which velocity
changes with time, in
terms of both speed
and direction.
Constant speed
1000 Kmph

Constant speed
80 Kmph

In which case do you think

Acceleration is involved?
Constant speed NO
1000 Kmph ACCELERATION
Velocity = speed + direction

Acceleration = Vector quantity

Constant speed
Acceleration = change in velocity 80 Kmph
Constant speed Change in direction
30 kmph

Change in velocity

There is ACCELERATION!
Uniformly Accelerated Motion
(UAM)

In Uniformly Accelerated Motion

(UAM), the acceleration of a body is
constant or does not change.
Exhibits uniformly accelerated
motion

Free fall is any motion of a body

where gravity is the only force
acting upon it.

Acceleration due to gravity:

g= 9.8 m/s² neglecting air
resistance is a constant
acceleration for all falling bodies,
regardless of their mass
TAKE NOTE
★ All objects on the earth’s surface are being accelerated toward the
center of the earth at a rate of 9.8 m/s² (can use a negative sign to
indicate that gravity is pulling an object downward).
★ This means that if you raise an object above the surface of the
earth and drop it, the object will start from rest and its velocity will
increase by 9.8 m/s for each second it is falling toward the Earth's
surface until it strikes the ground.
Uniformly Accelerated Motion
(UAM)

● It is a type of motion in which

the velocity of an object
changes by an equal amount
in every time period.

What can you say about the speed?

Constant speed
Is it accelerating?

No, Uniform motion

“Is it in UAM
