Part 2: Read the passage below and answer the question: Do the following statements agree with
the information given in the text?

In biology, the term mutualism refers to a mutually beneficial relationship between two species. The
later economic theory of mutualism is based on the labour theory of value, which states that the true
cost of an item is the amount of labour that was required to produce it. Hence, goods should not be
sold for more than the cost of acquiring them.

Mutualism is closely associated with anarchism, because its principles were set forth in the mid-
nineteenth century by the French politician and philosopher Pierre-Joseph Proudhon – the first
person to define himself as an “anarchist”.

The main tenets of mutualism are free association and free credit. In a mutualist workplace, workers
with different skills form an association to create a product or service. Though dependent on each
other, the workers are not subordinated as in a capitalist enterprise.

Mutual banks, also called credit unions, operate on the belief that free credit enables profit to be
generated for the benefit of the union’s members rather than bankers. Modern-day mutualism is
sometimes described as free-market socialism.

Proponents of mutualism support a free market economy, but object to capitalism because of the
inequalities created by government intervention. Many mutual businesses and banking
establishments exist today, espousing Proudhon’s Co-operative model.

1. Proudhon’s economic theory of mutualism was influenced by biological mutualism.

A. True B. False C. Cannot say
2. Mutual banking establishments do not operate on a for-profit basis.
A. True B. False C. Cannot say
3. In common with socialism, the economic doctrine of mutualism advocates state control over
production.

II. Logical Reasoning Tests

1. Answer: D
The figure can be labeled as shown.

The simplest triangles are ABL, BCD, DEF, FGP, PGH, QHI, JQI, KRJ and LRK i.e. 9 in numbers.
The triangles consist of two components each being OSG, SGQ, SPI, SRI, KSQ, KMS, FGH, JHI
and JKL i.e. 9 in numbers. There is only one triangle, i.e. KSG, which consists of four components.
The triangles consist of five components each being NEI, ANI, MCG and KCO i.e. 4 in numbers.
The triangles consist of six components, each of which is GMK and KOG, i.e. 2 in numbers.
There is only one triangle, i.e. the AEI consists of ten components.
There is only one triangle, i.e. KCG consists of eleven components.
Therefore, the total number of triangles in the given figure = 9 + 9 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 27.

2. Answer: D

3. Answer: A
1, 3, 9 have one element placed inside another.
2, 5, 6 contain two mutually perpendicular lines dividing the shape into four parts.
4, 7, 8 have two similar elements (unequal size) attached to each other.

4. Answer: C
The number rotates through 90oACW.

5. Answer: D
In one step, half a leaf is added to the figure at the end of the ACW. In the next step, two halves of
the leaf are added to the figure - one at the beginning of the ACW and one at the beginning of the
CW. Also, in each step, the figure rotates 45oACW.

III. Numerical Reasoning Tests

1. Answer: B
The space starts with 2, increases by 2 and is subtracted each time
2. Answer: A
There are 2 alternating sequences A, B, C and Z, Y, so C is the next sequence
3. Answer: C
Explanation: Multiply the total number of 200 participants by an 85% success rate to calculate the
expected number of successful completions: 200 x 0.85 = 170 individuals.
4. Answer: D
A work 1 day: 1/15
B work 1 day: 1/20
A working day of both A and B: 1/15 + 1/20 = 7/60
Four working days of both A and B: 4 x 7/60 = 7/15
⇒ Remaining work: 1 - 7/15 = 8/15
5. Answer: A
$27,456, forming 176 tons, averaging $156/ton

IV. Situational Judgment Tests

1. Suggested answer: Politely explain the store's return policy and offer alternatives such as an
exchange or store credit.

2. Suggested answer: To solve Alex's situation, there are several suggestions for the following
course of action:

● Show Empathy and Offer Support: Express empathy towards Alex's personal challenges and
workload struggles. Offer support and encourage open communication, assuring Alex that
the team is there to help.
● Explore Solutions: Discuss potential solutions to manage workload and meet deadlines more
effectively. This could include redistributing tasks within the team, revising project
timelines, or providing additional resources or training if needed.
● Team Collaboration: Encourage the team to collaborate closely with Alex, offering
assistance and sharing workload when possible. Foster a supportive team environment
where everyone feels comfortable seeking help and working together to achieve project
goals.
Performance Evaluation: In the long term, ensure that Alex's performance is evaluated fairly
and objectively. Assess whether additional support or adjustments are necessary to address
any ongoing challenges and ensure successful project completion.

3. Suggested Answer: In response to the ethical problem associated with John's unethical behavior,
there are several suggestions for the following actions:

● Gather Evidence and Document Instances: Collect evidence of John's unethical practices,
including specific incidents, data manipulation, and any other supporting information.
Maintain a detailed record of the evidence gathered, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
● Consult with Legal and Compliance Departments: Engage with the company's legal and
compliance departments to seek guidance on the appropriate course of action. This
consultation helps ensure that the actions taken align with legal requirements and corporate
policies.
● Confront John Privately: Arrange a private meeting with John to discuss the concerns and
evidence gathered. Address the specific unethical practices observed and provide an
opportunity for John to explain their actions. Maintain a calm and non-confrontational
approach during the conversation.
V. Verbal Reasoning Tests
Part 1:

1 2 3 4 5

C C B D C

Part 2:
1. Cannot say
Explanation: The passage does not state whether the economic theory was influenced by biology,
although it did come later
2. False
Explanation: Sentence eight tells us that the belief of “free credit” enables profits to be generated by
mutual banking establishments, but this profit is shared between union members rather than the
bankers. So regardless of who it goes to, we are told the banks do indeed operate on a for-profit
basis.
3. False
Explanation: The passage explains that free association is when workers from an association to
create a product, thus production is controlled by the workers rather than the state. And while the
ninth sentence refers to mutualism as free-market socialism, the tenth sentence states that
proponents of mutualism object to the “inequalities created by government intervention”.
