Question 3: You are working as a Project Manager in Artughal Construction Company (CA category).
This company has a vast experience of undertaking number of successful construction projects ranging
from construction of housing scheme, bridges, factories, motorways etc. The company’s name has
become a brand name for success in construction industry. One of the key success factors behind
success of the company lies in following the good practices of project management principles,
guidelines and processes enumerated by PMI in the form of PMBOK and other publications. It includes
from Integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, resource, communication, risk, procurement and
stakeholder management.
One of the successful projects undertaken by the Artughal Construction Company is the Islamabad
Expressway, a 20 km long highway from Zero Point to Rawat; which was made signal free few years
back with a cost of Rupees 1.6B. However, due to the lack of over-head bridges and lack of
pedestrians’ safety awareness in the surrounding area, accidents due to pedestrian crossing has
increased sharply. CDA has floated an ITB to award a contract to build 10 overhead bridges on this 20
km road at predefined places.
Artughal Company has won the contract to build these 10x bridges.
You have been nominated as a Project Manager to undertake the Project of building 10 overhead
bridges on this 20 km road. Budget assigned is Rupees 100M and expectation is to complete the project
within the stipulated time defined in the contract.
You are presently in the planning phase and based on Project Scope Baseline (WBS) and the Project
schedule constraints, your Project Team has identified/defined 11 Activities related to overhead bridge
projects, sequenced them logically, identified requisite resources and estimated durations for these
activities.
