select government scholarships whose sponsors provide pre-approved insurance plans can be
exempt from purchasing UCSD Extension Insurance. Please contact iphealth@ucsd.edu with any

REGISTRATION FOR MULTIPLE PROGRAMS

If you have enrolled in several programs, you must register in person at the end of each session for
the following program/session. During your UC San Diego Extension International Programs studies,
you must check your email often for notices about the dates and times when you can register for
your next program. Students who do not register in person for the next program by the announced
registration deadlines may lose their space in the program.

FOR-CREDIT COURSES, AVAILABLE SPACE, AND PREREQUISITES

You have been admitted for full-time study (12 credits) in the UPS program. Most courses taken in
the UPS program bear University of California credit or UC San Diego Extension credit and are
transferable at the discretion of receiving universities. Students in this program earn 12 credits per
quarter upon meeting satisfactory performance criteria as set by the professors in each course. All
courses offered at UC San Diego are on a space-available basis and require instructor and/or
departmental approval. In addition, certain prerequisites may be required for some classes and
enrollment restrictions by the University can vary without advance notice.
TAKING ADDITIONAL UNITS

If you want to take any units in excess of 12 units per quarter, you must pay additional tuition for
these units. Our UPS Advisor can advise you about that either now (ups-program@ucsd.edu) or
after your arrival to UC San Diego. Please remember, any restrictions regarding enrollment in a
specific number or type of UC San Diego Extension and/or UC San Diego courses agreed upon at
the time of acceptance to this program will be applied to your schedule.

SUMMER QUARTER EXCEPTION

During the summer quarter, UPS students may only take credit-bearing UC San Diego Extension
courses (12 credits). If you want to take credit-bearing classes at UC San Diego’s main campus in
summer, you must apply for the Summer University Program.
