Many people think that children should be competitive, while others believe that
children who are educated to co-operate rather than compete are likely to become
more useful adults. In my opinion, I strongly believe that a sense of cooperation in
children should be encouraged.

To begin with, it can be seen that a sense of competition plays an important role in
children’s development. It gives children strong motivations to achieve their goals,
additionally, children who are competitive are much more determined than others.
However, we cannot ignore some disadvantages that sense of competition brings.
Being competitive sometimes has bad effects on children’s mental health, such as
stresses or depression. For instance, many Asian students are suffering from
depression because of being under a lot of pressure.

From another prospective, children who are able to co-operate well with others,
have the likelihood to become helpful and flexible. We are living in a community
with each other, so the union and cooperation are extremely significant. Children
who are taught about cooperation tend to be more friendly, confident and
energetic. These characters are really necessary for their future, especially their
career and they can become successful in many aspects of life. For example, with
the rapid development of global economy like today, the international integration
is becoming more and more popular. We have to co-operate with people from
many different countries all over the world, so that cooperation is really vital.
Besides, children who have sense of cooperation can also avoid negative mental
experiences.

In conclusion, whether being competitive or cooperative should be supported in

children, it is still an argument. To my point of view, I do believe that we should
focus on teaching children about sense of cooperation.
