their admissions (age 17-19). The data collection method was
broken into 3 steps (classroom discussions, informal
discussions and then in-depth interviews). The 20 students
were asked questions about their expectations, their
preparation, their feelings after being rejected and what they
would do next

QUESTION 8: How would you prefer to be evaluated during

your studies?
A scientific paper conducted in September 2007 written by the
Turkish Science Education journal, more specifically by Osman
BİRGİN and Adnan BAKİ examined the case of a more
constructive evaluation throughout school years. Their
hypothesis was to find an alternative way where students would
be graded fairly, develop their critical thinking and other
essential skills. The process of portfolio for students was
chosen as one of the alternatives since it reflects on students’
work systematically and allows the teaching staff to examine
their progress with more accuracy. Several conditions would
have to take place to make this suggestion function as well as
divide Portfolios into categories so the teachers grade students
with more records regarding their performance. Although both
the advantages and disadvantages of this method were taken
into account their total findings were that it would have a
positive impact on students’ learning development and make
teachers aware of their progress but many arrangements would
have to be implemented beforehand.
Question 6: How effective do you believe is today’s education
in schools?
The experiment was conducted by western Michigan university.
Topic: An investigation of factors related to student satisfaction
and dissatisfaction with high school.
Hypothesis: are there identifiable factors which are related to
student satisfaction and dissatisfaction with school?
Findings: the factor with the highest percentage figures relative
to dissatisfaction with school is teachers’ behaviour. The school
policy and administration, interpersonal relations with peers
indicate that approximately one of every four students found
these factors to be sources of dissatisfaction. The percentage
figures for the teachers’ behaviour, school policy and
administration, and interpersonal relations with peers were
most often designed as sources of dissatisfaction.
The two factors with the highest percentage figures
relative to satisfaction with school are achievement and
recognition. Of the remaining factors the most often mentioned
by students was school activities and the school work itself.
