ENEL890AD W2023

Project

Due April 11th, 5:30 PM.

As part of this project, you will be placed in groups of 2. Each member of the team will prepare their own
report. One team member selects DG, the other team member selects SYS end of the line.

As part of the project, you will be designing the protection and automation application required to
interconnect a distributed generation resource to a distribution feeder sharing other customer loads. The
functional requirements of the project are as follow:

1. The distributed generation resource DG can be connected to the system only if the feeder is
connected to the grid SYS at the sourcing station.
2. The feeder will have an auto-reclose system, one reclose only with a delay of 3 seconds, which will
be allowed to restore service to the other customers on the line if the generation is confirmed
disconnected from the system at B2. If after the first reclose the fault is still present, the breaker
will be opened, and locked.
3. Location B1 has SEL751 and location B2 has SEL751A relay. Set up both protection relays with
instantaneous and inverse-time protective functions, assuming all voltages 1.00 pu, 𝑋 = 0.5 pu,
𝑋 = 0.8 pu, 𝑆 = 2 𝑀𝑊 + 0.5 𝑀𝑉𝐴𝑅, 𝑆 = 1 𝑀𝑊 + 0.2 𝑀𝑉𝐴𝑅, 𝑋 = 0.4 pu. Per unit
values given in 100 MVA and 25 kV base. System operates at 25 kV. Load L1 is connected at 30% of
line-length distance from B1, and load L2 is connected at 75% of line-length from B1. Assume all
sequence impedances equal with positive sequence impedance for each device.
4. Each relay will have a definite time overcurrent protective function and an inverse-time
overcurrent function to protect the entire length of the line. Set the relays per phase.
