 Introduction to Hadith
• Literal meaning of Hadith is “report, statement, or narration.”
• The narration of the sayings, doings or approvals (Taqrir) of the Prophet
Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬.

• It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Amr said: "I heard the Messenger of
Allah [‫ ]ﷺ‬say: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the
Muslims are safe, and the Muhajir is the one who forsakes (Hajara) that
which Allah has forbidden to him."

‫‪Thabit bin Abi Safiyyah said, : "I asked Abu Ja'far: 'Did Jabir‬‬
‫‪narrate to you that: "The Prophet performed Wudu one time‬‬
‫"‪each, and two times, and three times?" He said: "Yes.‬‬

 Approval/Taqreer
• Any of the prophet’s companion did or said something in his
presence and the prophet ‫ ﷺ‬confirmed it, prohibited it or did not
say something. This is known as Taqreer in Hadith terminology.
 Example:
• Hazrat Salman R.A told Hazrat Abu Ad-Darda R.A, “Your lord has a
right on you, your soul has a right on you and your family has a right
on you, so you should give the rights of all those who has a right on
you. Abu Ad-Darda R.A came to the prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and told him the
whole story. The prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said, “Salman has spoken the truth.”
 Difference between Hadith & Sunnah
• Literal meaning of Hadith is report or statement.
• Literal meaning of Sunnah is a way or conduct of life.
• Hadith is spoken on the sayings, action and approvals of the
prophet ‫ ﷺ‬while Sunnah is spoken on the model behavior of the
Prophet ‫ﷺ‬.
• Examples:
1. Relaxing while standing
2. Praying towards the Bait-ul-Muqaddas
3. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬washed his body parts once and twice in
ablution.
 Legal Position of Sunnah
• Types of divine revelation:
1. Spoken (Matluww)
2. Unspoken (Ghair-Matluww)
• Matluww is spoken for the Holy Quran and Ghair-Matluww is spoken for
the Hadith. Both are the fundamental and primary sources of Islam.

And We have also revealed the Dhikr to you, so that you may clearly explain
to men what was revealed to them so that perhaps they may reflect.

The Messenger of Allah‫ ﷺ‏‬said: 'None of you truly believes until I am
more beloved to him than his child, his father and all the people.‘

‫ال يؤمن أأحدُك حَّت حيب ألخيه ما حيب لنفسه‏‏‏(متفق عليه‏)‏‬
The Prophet‫ ﷺ‏‬said, “No one of you becomes a true believer until
he likes for his brother what he likes for himself.”
‫متںیموکیئصخشاسوتقکتؤمنمںیہنوہاتکسبجکتاےنپاھبیئےکےیلوہزیچدنسپہنرکےوجاےنپےیلدنسپ‬
‫رکاتےہ۔‬
• This Hadith is the backbone for improving the social system.
• If I like to be treated well, I should treat others well.

‫من ر أأى منمك ً‬
‫منكرإ فليغريه بيده ‪ ،‬فان مل يس تطع فبلسانه‪ ،‬فان مل يس تطع فبقلبه‬
‫وذكل أأضعف إالمیان‏(روإہ مسمل)‏‬
‫‪ said, "Whoever amongst you sees an evil,‬ﷺ ‪Messenger of Allah‬‬
‫‪he must change it with his hand; if he is unable to do so, then‬‬
‫;‪with his tongue; and if he is unable to do so, then with his heart‬‬
‫‪and that is the weakest form of Faith".‬‬

‫َم ْن ََك َن يُ ْؤ ِم ُن ِاب ى َِّلل َوإلْ َي ْو ِم إل آ ِخ ِر فَلْ ُي ْك ِر ْم ضَ ْي َف ُه َو َم ْن ََك َن يُ ْؤ ِم ُن ِاب ى َِّلل َوإلْ َي ْو ِم إل آ ِخ ِر فَلْ َي ُق ْل خ ْ ًَريإ َأ ْو ِل َي ْص ُم ْت (روإہ‬
‫ترمذی)‏‬
‫‪"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, then let him honor his‬‬
‫‪guest. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, then let him say‬‬
‫"‪what is good or remain silent.‬‬
‫وجصخشاہللاعتٰیلاورآرخترپاامینراتھکےہاےساچےیہہکاےنپامہمنیکزعترکےاوروجصخشاہللاعتٰیلاورآرختےک‬
‫دنرپاامینراتھکےہاےساچےیہہکایھچابتےہکایرھپپچرےہ۔‬
‫• من‏حسن إسالم إملرء تركه ما ال يعنيه‏۔‏(یسکصخشےکاالسمیکوخیبہیےہہکوہالینعی اوروضفلابوتںوکوھچڑدے)‬
‫• َو ى ِإَّل ْی َن ُ ْه َع ِن إلل ى ْغ ِو‏ ُم ْع ِرضُ ْو َن‏(إملؤمنون‪)3:‬‏‬

‫َأربع من أأعطهين فقد أأعطي خري إَلُّ نْ َيا َو ْإل آ ِخ َر ِة‪:‬‏قَلْ ٌب َشا ِك ٌر َو ِل َس ٌان َذإ ِك ٌر َوبَدَ ٌن عَ ََل إلْ َب َال ِء َصا ِب ٌر َو َز ْو َج ٌة َال تَ ْب ِغي ِه خ َْوًنً‬
‫ِِف ن َفسهَا َو َال َماهل (روإہ إلبيھقی)‏‬
‫‪"There are four characteristics which are of such a nature that one‬‬
‫‪who has been given them has been endowed with what is best in this‬‬
‫‪world and the next:‬‬
‫‪a thankful heart, a tongue which makes mention of God, a body which‬‬
‫‪shows endurance in trial, and a wife who does not seek to be‬‬
‫”‪unfaithful to [her husband] in her person or his property.‬‬
‫اچرزیچںیایسیںیہےسجلماجںیئوتاےسداینوآرختیکالھبیئلمیئگ‪،‬رکشزگاردل‪،‬ذرکرکےنوایلزابن‪،‬وفیلکتںںیمربصرکےن‬
‫واالدبناورایسیوعرتوجاےنپاخودنےساینپذاتےکابرےںیماوراسےکاملےکابرےںیمایختنیکاطبلہنوہ۔‬
