Salad and Go

Major Organizational Processes

Supplier Management: What is the criteria for supplier selection?
One of Salad and Go’s priorities is to ensure that each of their salads are made with
fresh ingredients. Because of that, they attempt to source their ingredients locally in
order to provide their customers with the freshest ingredients and lowest prices
possible (“Salad and go”, 2022). Another thing that they have to consider is whether or
not the supplier will be able to provide them with enough product to supply all of their
locations. Because they have over 80 locations, they need to have suppliers that are
able to constantly supply enough ingredients to fit their demand.
IT: How does IT support the purpose?
Salad and Go utilizes technology to support their purpose through their app. This app
allows customers to order ahead of time so that they can pick up their order quickly at a
time that is convenient for them. The app also allows customers to clearly see the menu
and easily customize their order to their desire. Lastly, the app keeps track of previous
orders so that customers can add to cart which allows for a faster check out process.
The way the app is designed helps Salad and Go accomplish their mission of providing
fresh healthy food that is affordable and convenient for everyone (“About Us”, 2022).
Human Resources
Recruitment: What are the recruitment practices?
One of the recruitment practices includes conducting virtual interviews through
Workable. The organization started using this platform during the pandemic in order to
allow them to conduct face-to-face interviews in a virtual environment. The results have
shown that this method is effective: “they screened 50 candidates within two weeks.
That works out to at least five screens per business day” (Cohen, 2022). Using this
format allows Salad and Go to have a quick hiring process in order to keep their stores
staffed so that they can operate efficiently.
Feedback: What are the feedback culture and practices?
From my experience at Salad and Go, providing frequent feedback was an important
part of the culture. Each member of the team has a development journal where they can
write down their goals and keep track of them. At least once a month, each team
member has a one-on-one meeting with the store manager where they give feedback
and praise. This allows the store manager to communicate to the team member about
what they are doing well and how they need to improve before they can be promoted.
This process creates transparency between the team members and the store manager.
Daily Life
Office Space: What principles govern the design of the office space?
Each Salad and Go location is designed the same way and for a specific reason:
“Restaurants are roughly 700 square feet and come with a walkup window, but no dining
room. Essentially meaning, stores are built for quick back-of-house operations” (Coley,
2022). This structure allows team members to access all resources needed to build
salads and quickly get them out the window to customers. This represents one of Salad
and Go’s core values which is to serve each guest in a timely manner: “With time as
valuable as a balanced meal, we aim to take care of you on both” (“About us”, 2022).
Leadership and Management Style: What are the expectations for leadership behavior?
Based on my personal experience and the responsibilities listed on the job listing, store
managers at Salad and Go are to “lead all store operations and report to District
Manager” and “ensure store meets its objective- including development, quality, safety,
speed, labor, and accuracy goals” (“Careers”, 2023). Store managers are held
accountable for these responsibilities as they have weekly meetings with their district
manager to discuss the internal operations of the store and whether or not it is meeting
metrics. If there are issues, the store manager and district manager work together to
develop an improvement plan. It is the store manager’s responsibility to enact this plan
and communicate it with all members of the team.
Conclusion
Based on my research and my personal experience, I would categorize Salad and Go
into the Orange/Achievement paradigm. Many of their practices are implemented based
on their ability to make the organization more efficient. The organization is treated more
like a machine than a living organism. Every role has specific responsibilities and every
task is performed in a certain way. The organization is also focused on development
and encouraging people to move up the ladder which is another aspect of the orange
paradigm. Lastly, Salad and Go holds their employees accountable to meeting
predetermined goals. Every role reports to a higher role to make sure that their role
responsibilities are being accomplished.
