Hairstyling product

HISTORY
Hairstyle products are used to change the texture and/or shape of hair.
Hairstyling products have had a significant impact on the creation of
various hairstyles and trends
throughout history. For the ancient Egyptians, physical appearance was
very important to the embalming process. Hair was often styled to maintain
the individuality of the deceased. A fatty
substance, now known as hair gel, was used to style hair and keep it in
place. The 1980s punk movement popularized using hair gel to sculpt spiky
hairstyles, such as mohawks. The ancient Gauls had invented a waxy soap-
like substance, similar to hair wax, as a hair styling agent. Many
years later, the same soap-like substance was used as a cleaning agent. In
1948, Chase Products became the first company to package hair spray. Hair
spray became very popular in the 1950s due
to its ability to keep hair in place and prevent hair from falling out of a
styled look.

TYPES OF HAIRSTYLING PRODUCTS

1. Hair gel is a hairstyle product that is used to stiffen hair into a
particular hairstyle. The end result is similar to, but stronger than, those of
hair spray. Hair gel is most commonly used in the hairstyling of men, but it
is not gender specific. Hair gel can come in tubes, pots, small bags, or even
in a spray form.

2.Hair wax is a thick hair styling product containing wax, which helps
hold hair in place. Unlike some products such as hair gel which leave the
hair hard in texture, hair wax leaves the hair pliable. Many manufacturers
are now releasing different versions of hair wax, such as pomade, putty,
glue, glypto, whip, and styling paste.

3 Hair mousse is a product added to hair for extra volume and

shine. It is most commonly produced as a foam, but can also be
Hairstyling product Cans of hairspray found as a spray. Hair mousse adds
volume without causing clumps or buildup. It is a lighter alternative to hair
gel. Mousse is generally applied to the roots of damp hair before blow
drying or styling. Mousse may also be used to add definition to curls, or to
add texture to hair for a beach blown effect.

4Pomade is an oil-based or water-based product designed for slick and

tight hairstyles. Unlike hair spray and hair gel, pomade does not dry and
often takes several washes to remove. Grease-cutting shampoos and deep-
cleansing conditioners can be used to quicken the removal process. Other
methods of removal include the use of olive oil, dish washing liquid, and
lemon juice.
Most oil based pomades contain petroleum jelly (and in fact, petroleum
jelly can be used alone as a
pomade) and mineral oil, and many also contain some sort of wax. They
may also contain perfume and coloring agents. A plethora of pomades are
still in production today and vary in factors such as weight, shine, and
scent. The stiffest will have a higher proportion of beeswax
while the lightest may have a higher proportion of oils.

What is a Hair Cream?

Hair cream is a versatile hairstyling product that delivers minimal hold for creating relaxed
looks. It adds a subtle, natural shine to your hair while smoothing down frizz and taming
flyaways.

Hair cream doesn’t lock hair firmly in place like gel; instead, it gives a more casual look with
plenty of movement and texture.

Hair cream is non-greasy and doesn’t weigh your hair down. It can be used on damp or dry hair
to achieve your desired style.

History of Hair Cream

Also known as styling cream, hair cream has been around since the 1920s. Back then, hair
styling cream was super-greasy and tended to stain fabrics.

Today, modern hair cream is much easier to work with and won’t ruin your favorite shirt or
pillowcase.

So what is hair cream? As the name suggests, hair cream is a soft, creamy, pliable substance for
creating various hairstyles. Unlike gel, hair cream provides minimal hold; it won’t keep a
mohawk in place, and pompadours or quiffs are a no-go.
Hair cream lets you create casual styles with natural shine and movement – think hipster comb-
overs that your date will want to run their fingers through.

Benefits of Hair Cream

Another benefit of hair cream is that it keeps stray strands and annoying frizz in check. It does
this effortlessly, smoothing your hair without weighing it down or making it greasy.
Hair cream is therefore ideal for adding shine and softness to curly, wavy, and coarse hair.

When hair cream is used sparingly, it can also add texture and volume to thin or fine hair. Most
lengths, especially short and mid-lengths, look sexy with a little hair cream raked through.

To recap, hair styling cream is great for:

 Adding subtle, natural-looking shine

 Taming frizz, strays, and flyaways
 Creating laid-back yet trendy styles
 Curly, wavy, coily, or coarse hair
 Short and mid-length hair

Benefits of Hair Cream vs Hair Gel or Hair Pomade

The hair styling products you choose depends on your hair type and the style
you’re ultimately aiming for. But with such a variety of products on the market,
you may be confused as to which one is best for your needs.

Below, we explore the benefits of hair cream vs gel or pomade to help you make
up your mind.

Hair Cream vs Hair Gel

Hair gel lets you create all kinds of looks from slicked-back to spiked-up. It can be
used on damp or dry hair and delivers strong hold but washes out easily.

Hair gel tames flyaways, holds curls, gives a wet-look finish, and is suitable for all
hair types, textures, and lengths. However, hair gel tends to make your hair feel
hard and weighed-down. It also leaves visible white flakes in your hair which is
not a good look.

By contrast, hair cream provides minimal hold and a healthy, shiny finish. It makes
hair more manageable and locks in moisture for touchable softness.

Hair cream is so light it can also be layered with other styling products to achieve
your desired look.

Hair Cream vs Hair Pomade

Hair pomade has been around for 60 years or more. Originally, pomade was
petroleum- based, which meant it was hard to wash out, could worsen acne, and
would stain pillows. Today, pomade is water-based and easier to work with. It
typically comes in medium to high shine formulas for creating neat, slick styles.
Hair pomade delivers strong yet flexible hold without stiffness or stickiness. It’s
the best product for creating quiffs, pompadours, ducktails, and combovers.

While pomade does add shine, it looks overly glossy compared to the subtle sheen
of hair cream. Nobody wants an oil-slick mane! When it comes to styling, hair
cream ensures your combover looks soft and textured not greasy and flat. If you
prefer a natural look to match your mellow personality, then hair cream is the
product to choose.

PRODUCTION OF ANTI-DANDRUFF HAIR CREAM

Anti-Dandruff Hair Cream is a type of hair cream that people use

prevent, treat dandruff. Having dandruff can be embarrassing.
Naturally, some individuals have dry skin and dandruff loves
people
like that. To save oneself from embarrassment, it’s good to apply
it to one’s hair after having a bath.
Dandruff is caused by the presence of a fungus called Malassezia.
The good news is it’s not contagious as some people claim.
Almost everyone has the presence of the aforementioned fungus
on their scalp—this is why people don’t take washing their hair
with shampoo lightly every day.

REAGENTS FOR ANTI-DANDRUFF HAIR CREAM PRODUCTION AND

THEIR FUNCTIONS
1. Petroleum jelly– This is a purified mixture of hydrocarbon known as alkane, obtained
from refining petrol. It is used for the treatment of burns, cuts, rashes, damaged feet,
cracked lips and protection against cold. Petroleum Jelly also serves as a moisturizer to
block the trans-epidermal water loss, and traps the water under the skin. Petroleum
Jelly presents in the hair product gives the hair some deserved shine.
2. Lanolin– This is a greasy material produced by the sebaceous glands of sheep or
sheep wool. It acts as an excellent moisturizer for dry skin and hair, it also functions as
an effective water barrier – preventing further water escape (it holds moisture to the
skin).
3. Paraffin Wax – This is a wax-like solid that is a mixture of saturated hydrocarbons, it
was created by the distillation from Petroleum. Paraffin is typically used in cosmetics,
candles, polish and hair products. It serves as sealing/waterproofing compound, also
for treatment of hand and feet.
4. Paraffn Oil(Off White) – This is a very highly refined mineral oil used in lotions and
creams. It serves as the emollient which helps to seal moisture in the skin to prevent it
from drying.
5. Industrial Camphor–The powerful fragrance of camphor isn’t the only attraction in the
chemical – it eliminates ache, scalp itching, prevents burn, scars, cracked heel,

promotes hair growth by fortifying the hair roots as well as keeping it gleaming and it
also combats hair loss.
6. Menthol/Peppermint– This is antiseptic in nature, it helps to prevent dandruff and
lice, in addition to its usual cooling effect, providing an immediate relief from pain, itchy
scalp, fungus, and bacteria, giving a refreshing sensation to the scalp.
7. Glycerin – This helps to prevent breakage, especially while combing, de-tangling or
manipulating hair when wet.
8. Vitamin E– This is a great stimulant for growth of capillaries, when the capillaries are
healthy and profuse, the blood circulation in the scalp would be enhanced, which will
also promote strong and healthy hair growth. It slows down premature aging,
promotes lustrous hair and prevents split ends.

9. Sulfur: Sulfur is an anti-dandruff agent, intended to reduce the formation of

dandruff flakes. Additionally, sulfur in the diet is fabulous for hair health and
growth. Just as sulfur helps to build collagen and strengthen the skin, it also aids
to boost keratin, giving the hair its strength and elasticity
