Cutting
1. Follow the layout above left to fold the main fabric lengthwise with right sides together
and pin your pattern shapes on it to cut out. First, work on double layers, transfering marks
and cutting out the fabric pieces through the two layers. Next, lay remaining fabric flat, with
wrong side up, and place the remaining pattern shapes on it, cutting out the pieces.
2. If cutting from fur or minky then make sure the pattern pieces are placed so the furs
direction is going down the body, which may be a different layout than the one listed
above.
3. Cut out the pattern pieces from the accent fabric the same was as we did for the main
fabric using the layout on the right as a guide .

Ears
1. Place the accenting piece and main ear pieces together with right sides together. Pin. With
a 1/4” seam allowance sew together from A to B, leaving the bottom open. Do both ears.
2. Clip curves of the fabric pieces. Turn right side out. Press.
3. Line up the ear pieces on top of the head back where it is marked A and B, with the main
fabric touching each other and ease into place and pin. Baste into place.
Note: for the rest of the pattern use a 1/4” seam allowance unless otherwise noted.

Eyes
1. Cut out the eye hole from the pattern and pin the eye in place.
2. Remove the pattern piece and hand or machine stitch the eye onto the face top where
indicated.
3. Hand stitch the eye shine onto the eye where indicated. This is a small piece of felt, if your
having a difficult time stitching it on, consider embroidering it on with a satin stitch or not
having one. It looks good either way!

Head
1. Place face top and face bottom pieces right sides together with points C-D-E-F-G lined up.
As your pinning use D-E-F as a guide for correct placement. Do this again for the other 2
pieces. Sew to the point G, don’t go to the end of the fabric. Press open.
2. Place each side of the face right sides together lining up H-G-I and stitch together. Clip
curves near the seam. Clip the extra fabric off the nose.

3. With the 2 head back pieces right side together, Stitch from H to K. Clip curves.
4. Place the face front and the head back pieces with rights sides together matching up seam
at H at the top of the head then the side L and down to M. Stitch. Clip the curves.
5. Between the points of M-I-M, which is the neck opening, make small clips up through part of
the seam allowance. Set head aside.

Arms

Legs
1. This is the most important part to have marked, Q and R on both the leg and the foot pad. If
you haven’t done that yet, do it now, it will make the foot much easier.
2. Open up the foot pad and with right sides together line up the foot pad with the leg from
Q-R. Ease it around the slight curve. Stitch. Do not go to the edge of the fabric on either side
of R or Q, start at one point and go to the other.
3. With your other half of your leg, line up Q-R on the foot pad again and Stitch. Only stitch from
R-Q do not go all the way to the end of the fabric. When opened it will look like picture #3.
4. Line up your 2 leg pieces and stitch from S-T. Stop at T do not go to the end. Clip Curves.
5. Stitch from V-U, making sure to leave a gap for a place to add stuffing.

6. Pull the bottom of your foot apart to open the foot pad and lay it flat against the leg piece.
The front of the leg and foot pad should line up. Stitch to close that gap, from R to R. Clip
curves.
7. Do the same with the back, lining up U with the middle of the back foot pad. Stitch. Cut off
excess fabric. Turn right side out.

Tail
1. Place the side tail tip right sides together with the tail side, matching up the markings DD to
EE. Stitch.
2. Place the top tail tip right sides together with the tail top, matching up the markings DD on
both sides. Stitch.
3. Pin the tail top to the correct tail side with right sides together matching up FF-DD and the
point near the end. Stitch. Don’t go clear to the end of the fabric, stop at the marked end
point.
4. Follow step 3 again for the other side of the tail. Picture 4 is a top view of the tail after both
sides have been sewn on.

5. Line up the bottom of the tail sides together from GG to the tip of the tail. Pinch the extra
fabric of the top tail tip so it is up above the bottom tail and continue sewing the bottom of
the tail all the way through the pinched top, leaving a gap where indicated. Clip curves and
turn right side out.

Body
1. Fold the belly in half with right sides together and stitch up the dart. Clip curve and set aside.
2. Place the tail (turned right side out) where indicated on the body back with the points FF and
GG lining up along the seam, the end of the tail will hang out from the seam allowance of
the body back. Baste the tail into place. Put the right sides together of the body back and
stitch W-X and Y-Z.
3. Open the body back and line up the X & Y seams together so they are touching and then pull
the AA points out to create a straight line. Stitch.

4. Pinch the legs so the seams of the legs are touching each other. This will place the point
BB on the side of the leg. Place the leg where indicated on back body. Make sure they are
facing the correct direction, the back of the leg should be touching the back body. The legs
need to be placed at an angle. The point BB should be placed on the inside where indicated
and the opposite top corner matching the edge of the body back (as shown in illustration).
Baste into place. This illustration hopefully makes it more clear. Do a little check at this point
by pulling the legs down and making sure they are facing the right direction and they are
straight.
5. With right sides together pin the belly to the back body matching up CC-Z-CC. Make sure the
legs and tail are tucked up inside the body and not caught in a pin. We don’t want to stitch
the leg or tail into the side of the body. Stitch. Clip corners.

Arms
1. Pin the arms lined up at the top side of the body with the markings O-N. Baste into place.
2. Turn body right side out.

Attaching the head to the body

1. Place the body inside of the head with right sides out. Line up the points I and each side M.
Stitch. Make sure when lining up the body to the head that all the seams are flat and com-
pletely opened. You don’t want to catch any extra fabric. When stitching it’s a little tight but
managable. Just go slow and remember it’s like stitching a circle, as you are sewing rotate
the circle back up and around the foot of the machine so it’s not pulling awkardly at the neck
while you’re trying to sew.
2. Turn right side out.

Stuffing
1. Stuff the body/legs/arms/tail. When stuffing the face make sure to add stuffing at the tip of
the nose first to make sure enough stuffing gets in there. Also do small pieces of stuffing at
a time so you don’t get any unusual lumps.
2. Ladder stitch each opening closed.

1 2 3 4

Nose
1. With right sides together stitch the two nose pieces together, leaving the bottom open. Clip
curves and turn right side out.
2. Fold the bottom seam allowance up inside of the nose.
3. Add a small bit of stuffing.
4. Ladder stitch the nose onto the tip of the foxes face.

Understanding Pattern
Symbols
Cutting line: The outer dashed line of each
pattern piece provides a guide for cutting the
fabric.
1/4”
Sewing line: The inner solid line indicates
the finished size of the pattern piece and

grain line
where to sew the fabric pieces.

Seam allowance: This is the distance be-

tween the cutting line and the sewing line and
is 1/4” wide in this pattern.

Grain line: The solid line with arrows at both

letter
ends in the center of the pattern piece. When
laying out the pattern piece this line should be
parrallel to the selvege edge of the fabric.

Place on fold bracket: This is the solid

line with two arrows at right angles that point
to the pattern piece edge. It indicates that the pattern piece should be placed along a folded
edge of fabric.

Notches: The short line intersecting on the cutting line. These short lines mark where to
position adjoining project pieces for sewing. You should transfer these markings onto the fab-
ric by clipping it into the seam allowance after cutting out the pieces.

Dart: This is a fold which will be sewn into the fabric to provide shape to the project. To
make a dart we first mark the points to the fabric piece. Fold the dart in half with right sides
together and matching the right and left fabric edges. Next, pin and sew along one side of
the dart line, until you reach the mark. With a dart, the seam allowance starts at 1/4” but then
gradually sewing off the edge of the fabric at the indicated mark.

Marking the Pattern
Poke a hole in the pattern using an awl
or something sharp where the pattern is
marked with a small dot or letter to be able
to use a marking pen to accurately mark
the fabric below.

Where there is a notch mark on the pattern

piece make a small notch in the paper to
indicate where it should also be marked on
the fabric so you don’t miss it and have to
come back later and mark it.

Printing 1

The PDF file consists of the

instructions and pattern pages.
It is only necessary to print the
pattern pages. Click “Print” on 2
the File Menu when you are
ready. Next, follow these steps
in the popup dialogue page.

1. Select the printer you want 3

to use.
2. Select “Pages” options on
the “Pages to Print” tab and
enter the start page and
end page.
3. Select “Actual size” option
on the “Page Sizing and
Handling” tab to ensure 4 5
correct size of the pattern.
4. Click “Page Setup” Button
to Select “Letter” paper size.
If you need too, this may already be selected depending on your regualr settings.
5. Click “Print” button.

If you want to make your pattern pieces more durable, you can print them on cardstock or glue
the printed pieces to other heavyweight materials and then cut out.

Resizing
If you want to make a larger or smaller
version of the softie you can scale
it using your printer. To enlarge the 1
pattern click on “poster” and the 2
percentage you want to enlarge it
in the “Tile Scale” box. Select the 3
options “Cut Marks” and “Labels”. “Cut
Marks” add little lines in the corner to
show where you should cut to more
easily line up the pieces back together
since they won’t be on the individual
patter pieces. “Labels” will add a little 4
label in the corner of each page to
number each poster piece to better
know which go together. Both those
options are very handy. Click “Print”.

To reduce the size of the softie in the

“Page Sizing and Handling” select
“Custome Scale” and indicate the
percentage you would like to shrink 1
the pattern pieces by. Click “Print”.

Tip: Press Tab after adding your 2

changed percentage to show it on the
preview.

Before you can use the scaled patterns
you will need to adjust the seam
allowance back to 1/4 of an inch. Re-add
a 1/4” seam allowance by drawing 1/4”
away from the sewing line all around each
pattern piece. Then cut it out on that
drawn line.

Alternately, you can cut each pattern

piece along the sewing line as a template
without redrawing the cutting line
but don’t forget to add the 1/4” seam
allowance when cutting out each piece.
