Question 1
During this video Greg discussed life before and after the incident which led to his
brain injury and disabilities. What basic human right was infringed that led to him
obtaining these injuries?

Greg's basic human right to life was violated, resulting in enduring brain damage
and its accompanying challenges. His ability to work has been stolen away by
these consequences. A life that should have been vibrant and complete was cut
short, leaving him burdened with a multitude of hindrances that disrupt the ordinary
flow of existence. Greg was denied the prospect of a thriving and rewarding
existence prior to the unfortunate incident. The opportunity for a fulfilled and
prosperous life was cruelly snatched from him before the accident

Question 2
Based on the information presented to you in this clip, Greg has lived in many
different places. Has his right to choose where he lives been upheld? Discuss why or
why not.

Greg's right to choose where he lives has not been upheld due to multiple forced
relocations. The clip makes it evident that his living situation has been unstable, as
he has been compelled to move several times. This lack of stability denies him the
ability to exercise his right to choose where he lives effectively.

Question 3
Greg has approached you to discuss his treatment while he was in rehab as he feels
it was inadequate and he is considering making a complaint.

Question 3a
Does Greg have the right to complain?

Greg has every right to express his dissatisfaction with the inadequate services he
encountered during his time at the rehabilitation center. Federal and state laws are
in place to safeguard the well-being of nursing home residents. In cases where a
rehabilitation center or nursing home has violated civil rights laws, it's crucial to
report the violation to the regulatory body overseeing the nursing home and the
local long-term care institution.

Question 3b
Do you feel that Greg can advocate for himself? What level of advocacy support
might Greg need? Discuss your response.

Greg possesses the ability to advocate for himself as an independent individual.

His journey, marked by a life-altering injury and subsequent challenges during
therapy in nursing homes and rehab, has equipped him to stand up for his rights
related to disability and injury. Greg can effectively champion the needs of
residents, advocate for improved care quality, and uphold the rights to a better
quality of life.

Question 3c
Before you assist Greg in following up his complaint what processes would you need
to follow regarding obtaining and sharing his information?

As part of the legal profession, a lawyer or advocate acts as a representative of

clients, an officer of the legal system, and a public member with a special
responsibility for upholding the quality of justice. To assist Greg with his concerns,
the initial step involves ensuring his genuine intent and ruling out any personal gain
motives behind the complaint. If direct communication with staff isn't feasible,
consider discussing the issue with a representative.

Question 3d
Provide a list of strategies you would discuss with Greg for him to consider and
select from regarding making his complaint and what his intended outcome is.

1.Engage in a conversation with someone from the service to obtain answers that
can help address his frustration.
2.Seek advice from a professional who specializes in managing anger, unaffiliated
with the services in question.
3.Understand the reasons behind the service's lack of response and inquire about
their plans to rectify the issue and provide assistance to Greg.
4.Lodge a direct complaint with the ombudsman (if within the time limit).
Greg's desired outcome is a resolution to the problem at hand. He aims to see
appropriate actions taken, including potential consequences for the individual
responsible, if warranted.
Question 3e
List three services that you could refer Greg to if he chooses to take his complaint
further.

If Greg is dissatisfied with how the disability service has treated him and wishes to
escalate his complaint, he has the right to voice his concerns and seek resolution.
He can directly communicate with the disability service provider about the issues
he perceives as discriminatory. Additionally, he can involve a caregiver, family
member, or a trusted friend in this process. Seeking guidance from a professional
advocate or legal representative is also a valid avenue for addressing his concerns.

Question 3f
How can you monitor his progress through the complaints process?

1. Provide Greg with the contact numbers of relevant individuals who can assist in
addressing his complaint.
2. Ensure that he connects with these contacts and verify their support; if needed,
offer alternative contact numbers.
3. To track progress, maintain regular communication with Greg, checking in every
2-4 weeks via phone over the next few months. This will help understand his
situation, especially if he prefers discussing his concerns with me rather than the
hospital staff. Given Greg's valid reasons for dissatisfaction and discomfort arising
from his rehab experience, his decision to seek help is both understandable and
deserving of a positive response, considering the challenges he's faced.
