YAMAHA MT-09 OBD ADAPTER

Necessario:

- OBD extension cable: https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00J2N0VG4/

- Yamaha proprietary connector “Male MT090-47” from here: http://www.cycleterminal.com/mt-

series-090.html

- Heat shrink sleeve (optional)

- Tin welder (optonal, depends on how easy it is to crimp the terminals)
- Clamps for crimping terminals (optional, is possible to use regular clamps, but with these it is
easier), i used this one: https://www.amazon.it/USAG-U07540001-Pinza-Matrici-
Intercambiabili/dp/B00FF94BZG with the right adpter.
Procedure:

- Cut the extension cable in half, strike the extern sheath for 4 cm.
Cut off all wires except:
ORANGE corresponding to pin 4 of the female connector
DARK GREEN corresponding to pin 6 of the female connector
BROWN-WHITE corresponding to pin 14 of the female connector
GREEN-WHITE corresponding to pin 16 of the female connector
To be fully confident, before cut wires, I checked with a multimeter that the colored wires are
connected with the corresponding pin, if not, it is necessary to check which wire are connected to
the mentioned pins and avoid to cut them.

- Cut a piece of heat shrink sleeve, it's enough 4-5 cm. Insert the sleeve on the cut cable and slide it
over to the OBD connector. Do it now because if you forget, it's more complex to put it down.

- Strike the wires that have not been cut off.

- Crimp the wires as in the image.

Tin soldering

With crimping clamps it is much simpler, but you can also use normal clamps. The sealing rubber to
make the connector waterproof are not indispensable, but to throw them away I prefer to use
them properly.
The inner copper wires are very thin and it has happened that with a minimum of force they pulled
out of the crimped pin. I put a drop of tin after each crimpature such as in the image.

- Insert pins in the Yamaha connector following this scheme.

- Slide the heat shrink sleeve on the Yamaha connector and heat it to make the connector and cable
a single body.

- Here is the adapter completed
