Our Goal!!!

CONTENT STANDARD
The learners demonstrate an understanding of current-voltage-
resistance relationship, electric power, electric energy and
home circuitry.

LEARNING COMPETENCY
The learners should be able to infer the relationship current,
voltage and resistance

OBJECTIVES
After exploring this SIM, students will be able to:
1. describe the components of electricity:
current, voltage and resistance;
2. determine the relationship between electric
current and resistance;
3. determine the relationship between electric
current and voltage;
4. solve for each variable in the Ohm’s Law.

What are you waiting for?

Inhale! Exhale!
Let’s start this wonderful
journey together!

Guide Card
Hello there! I am Phylip the Physicist and I am
here to help you about a very interesting
topic!

We will be talking about the work

of my friend Georg Simon Ohm.

Can you guess what will be our topic?

Can you think of the main concept that
relates the three words below?

CURRENT VOLTAGE

RESISTANCE

??????

6
George Simon Ohm was born in
Erlangen Bavaria. He worked as a
mathematics lecturer and as a
physics teacher. He was able to build
equipment to research the recently
invented electrochemical cells. These
experiments resulted in the
discovery of Ohm’s Law.

OHM’s LAW

The CURRENT in a circuit between two points is

directly proportional to the VOLTAGE across the
two points, and inversely proportional to the
RESISTANCE between them.

Activity Card 1
“I’LL MATCH YOU”
Objective:
At the end of this activity, learners will be able to describe the
symbols and units of current, voltage and resistance
Materials:
pen pencil eraser
Procedure:
This activity is divided into two parts, “What’s My Symbol” and
What’s My Unit”. Match the pink boxes with those of the yellow
boxes.
Have fun!!!

What’s My Symbol?

CURRENT V

VOLTAGE R

RESISTANCE I

What’s My Unit?
CURRENT Volts (V)

VOLTAGE Ohms (Ω)

RESISTANCE Ampere (A)

Activity Card 2
Tell me: Increases or Decreases?
Objective:
At the end of this activity, you will be able to infer the
relationship between current, voltage and resistance.
Materials:
pen pencil eraser
Procedure:
Use your eyes and clearly analyze. Your answer may either be
decreases or increases. Make sure to write on blanks.

As the voltage ________________, the current ________________.

Voltage

Current

As the current ________________, the resistance _______________.

Resistance

Current

As the voltage _______________, the resistance _______________.

9
Activity Card 3
I’m a Problem Solver!!!
Objectives:
At the end of this activity, you should be able to:
1. Infer the relationship of current, voltage and resistance using
the Ohm’s Law;
2. Solve problems involving Ohm’s Law.
Materials:
Pen/pencil eraser calculator
Procedure:
Read each questions carefully and answer what is being asked.

Hello there! Can you help me with this? I

know you can!!!!
Since I’m a good friend I will give you
the formulas…. Hurry and enjoy!

Look! This is how it’s done!

Sample Problem:
How much current is flowing
through a stereo with resistance
Problem Set:
of 1.5 Ω if a 10 volt battery
1. How much current is flowing supplies power to it?
through a curling iron with
Given: R = 1.5 Ω, V = 10 Volts
resistance 0f 3 Ω if a 6 volt
Asked: Value of Current
battery supplies power to it?
Solution:
I = V/R
2. Calculate how much volts
= 10 V/1.5 Ω
are supplied to speaker if
= 6.67 A
the speaker has a resistance
of 35Ω and has a current of
0.2 A flowing through it.
Here’s My Final Answers!
3. If the resistance in the wire (with units please!)
is 150Ω and the voltage is
95V, what is the current 1.
flowing in the wire?

Assessment
“Ears to Hear, Eyes to See, Let’s See What You Got Thee”

Direction:
Encircle the letter of the best answer. You have choices from A-C, but I
have to tell you it’s not that easy. Good Luck!
