Introduction
In a world marked by increasing urbanization and dynamic living spaces, the need for innovative
and adaptable solutions to everyday challenges is more pressing than ever. The project at hand
addresses this imperative by introducing a remarkable innovation—an intelligently engineered
foldable and resizable cart. The foldable and resizable cart is a culmination of creative design,
precision engineering, and a commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our society. The
traditional concept of a cart, while undeniably useful, often presents challenges when it comes
to storage, transportation, and space optimization. Recognizing these limitations, the foldable
and resizable cart takes inspiration from nature's adaptability, allowing it to seamlessly adjust to
various sizes and configurations while also effortlessly folding into a compact form for easy
storage.

Specifications
• Minimum Platform Area: 60 cm x 60 cm
• Maximum Platform Area: 180 cm x 120 cm
• Maximum Load: 600kg
• Percentage increase in area: 500%
• Handle height: 90 cm

pg. 4
Maximum Stress Maximum Displacement

Base Plate 2.943 MPa 0.0219 mm

Side Plate 0.660 MPa 0.0057 mm

Assembly 60.003 MPa 0.2263 mm

Material: Plywood
Density: 5.52E-07 kg/mm3
Young’s Modulus: 7.7GPa
Yield Strength: 18 MPa
UTS: 18 Mpa

Results:
• Under maximum loading conditions, the maximum stress was within the material yield
strength range.
• Maximum stress was found in the hinges.

Limitations
• An additional locking mechanism is required to arrest the motion between plates in the
vertical plane in the unfolded configuration.
• No braking system added.
• Platform thickness in folded configuration is higher than standard.

Conclusion
In the realm of industrial logistics and material handling, the
foldable and resizable cart presented in this project serves as
a groundbreaking solution, optimizing space utilization and
enhancing adaptability in dynamic industrial settings. This
report has detailed the cart's design, development, and
testing phases, highlighting its innovative engineering
solutions and applications within manufacturing,
warehousing, and distribution operations. With its compact
design and eco-conscious considerations, this cart stands as a
transformative addition, poised to elevate efficiency and
spatial management in the industrial logistics landscape.
