Vale
Andrew Koch
Prior to joining the Club in 2005, Andrew was an excellent grower of
orchids and specialised in Cymbidiums. He was always willing to
provide his time and knowledge to other members, in particular, new
members and novice growers. He was actively involved in the
Committee, organised our Popular Vote at monthly meetings and
assisted at all shows. He organized the transfer of our Autumn Show
to Tanunda and our Christmas Dinner Caterers and up until his health
problems over the last year, remained our club liaison person for both
the Autumn Show (where he organised sponsorship from Foodland
Tanunda) and our Christmas Dinner.
Following the passing on July 24th, he will be greatly missed by our
Club.

very good display of cymbidiums with 16 individual plants, mainly in the
60-90mm size and under 60mm. the winner was Cym. Maluka ‘Baby
Pink’ owned by Ken & Rhonda Stock. There were 3 spikes, 16 flowers,
12 buds and a bud, and the final spike with 4 flowers and 10 buds. The

flowers were clean and in good condition, making a lovely display. 1st
Divisions winner was Den. Carinya. One spike had about 20 flowers and
the 2nd had 12. The flowers were of good texture cream in colour with
strong maroon spotting on the lips and on the base of the segments. There
was a strong influence of Den. Speciosum in the flower as well, but the
spike was upright, and the flowers were displayed well. This plant was
grown by Graham Hein. Open division had a good range of genera, with
the winner being Onc. Twinkles ‘Fragrant Fantasy’. A large plant of this
small flowering Oncidium. There were 25-30 spikes with up to 50
flowers per spike. It made a very eye-catching display. The flowers were
white in colour with an orange labellum. This plant also went onto win
the Orchid of the Night, it was also grown by Maureen and myself. The
seedling of the night was Den. Dalchophyllum x (marlene x striolatum).
A very small plant with 2 flowers and it is displaying good potential as
the plant grows up. This plant was owned by Ken & Rhonda Stock –
Graeme Hazledine

He who will not show when he may, may not win when he will – Roger

General advice Time to get busy and take note of the jobs of potting and
division to be done. Sept and October are the best months
to work on the collection before the hot weather sets in.
Do you have small slugs and snails in your pots? Get a
cheap coffee grinder and grind up your snail pellets.
Sprinkle in the pot and water them in. Bite size for micro
slugs and the baits get right into where they hide.
