Complaints/Suggestions: As in all Clubs and Associations, there are

times when members are not completely satisfied with events, which
occur from time to time. The Gawler Districts Orchid Club is no
exception. If at any time you have a complaint or suggestions, please
submit it in writing to the Committee with your signature. President
Trevor Lehmann has arranged a suggestion box for members to put
suggestions. This is your Club, the committee need to know what you
want including topics and Guest Speakers, for example.

President’s Report: Attendance this Meeting was quite low

with only 19 people in attendance, including Guests. Cold
weather, Colds & Flu & Covid are still issues that contribute. As
Steve Howard was unable to attend due to Cold/Flu symptoms, &
numbers low, the Beginners Group was not held. Plant benching
saw 5 plants in 2nd Division, 6 plants in 1st Division and 9 in the
Open Division. Numbers may have been low but the quality in 1st
& Open Divisions was excellent, which made it challenging to
select a winner for the Popular Vote. With Apologies from Wendy
Lodge & Steve Howard (both judges), it was left to Graeme
Hazledine, Rayne Riggs & Roger Stoeckel assisting, to judge &

give commentary. Our Guest Speaker, Kevin McLean. was
accompanied by wife Pauline, gave a very interesting talk and
PowerPoint presentation on breeding & Plant Genetics. Kevin
spoke on their years of plant breeding from tiny orchid seeds, to
plant tissue culture, to planting in a jar ready for de-flasking. Quite
a few questions were asked after meeting as it was a very thought-
provoking presentation. Our next meeting is our Club Auction.
Please bring along plants or anything related to growing
Orchids. (No Tupperware etc!!) Again, sincere thanks to the
Aigner-Muehler (both) for supplying HOT beverages, which on a
cold night, was much appreciated. Thanks again to all those who
assisted in set up, pack up & clean up. Our last Review in hard
copy, didn't have a Presidents Report & some other pages. It was
in the electronic version. Not sure why but will check into it.
Please keep safe, warm & healthy & hope to see you all next
Meeting. - Trevor Lehmann

Encouragement of Plants: Club members are encouraged to bring plants
that have an interesting or impressive display to share with club members
even – though it might not be judges for points. However, members are
reminded of the 6-month ownership rule for display of plants for judging.
Judges may still choose to give a commentary regarding plants as
displayed on this table. Please respect this arrangement.

Plants on Tables at Monthly Meetings: Members have requested that

plants remain on the table for 15/20 minutes after close of meeting to
enable them to see the plants. Your assistance in this regard would be
appreciated. These plants are for VIEWING ONLY, PLEASE DO NOT
TOUCH.
Review via E-Mail: If you wish to have a copy emailed to you, even
though you have elected to have a printed copied posted, then please send
a request to the Editor, Kyle Howard. If you wish to cancel the hard copy
that can be organised. Kyle can be contacted at this email address

General advice Later August will produce some warmer drying days as

a new growing season.
