as for 2020. SINGLE $25-00, Joint/Family $30-00. A reduction of $5-
00 if you receive the ‘REVIEW’ via E-Mail. Due to the loss of 4
meetings and no judging at showers in 2020, a SPECIAL ONE TIME
OFF subscription for members will be offered being $17-00 for Single
and $20-00 for Joint/Families, the $5-00 reduction for Review via E-
mail will still apply. SUBSCRIPTIONS can be paid to the Treasurer at
our Monthly Meetings, posted to P.O Box 32 Gawler 5118, or

If depositing via bank, please leave your name and ‘Sub’ on the end.

Neutrog: At our last club meeting, Paul Dipuglia from Neutrog spoke
about their organic fertilizers and how they offer a purchase program
for clubs, where members can purchase goods at significantly cheaper
prices than at normal retail outlets.

• Once we have all participating email addresses an email will

be sent to all with an activation code. Instruction will be
provided with the email as to setting up your account.
• Once your account is set up you simply place your order online
and select your collection point.
• Payment is at the completion of the order, via credit card and
direct to Neutrog.

GDOC 4 May 2021

Benefits to the Club and Members

• The online order process is very straight forward and provides

extended product information for ease of selection.
• Order up to 4 times per year, generally in time for the start of
each season.
• 4 logistical distribution points for ease of collection.
• Individual order detail provided at pick up for ease of
distribution.
• Payment is direct to Neutrog, eliminates the need for the club
to collect money and collate the order.
• All communication such as promotions and order and
collection reminders are sent direct to members from Neutrog
via email reducing the clubs admin.
• A $20 bonus voucher on initial order applies for orders over
$40.

Concerns raised:

• What if the member does not have an email address or is not

tech savvy?
• We suggest they ‘buddy up’ with another member and
combine their order, several do this already.

Order times and collection points: The plan is to have up to 4 orders

per year seasonally, at the start of each season;
Summer – November
Autumn – February

GDOC 5 May 2021

May – Winter
August – Spring

The collection points are;

Neutrog – Kanmantoo
Wallis Drive In - Gepps Cross
Wallis Mainline – Noarlunga
Carrick Hill – Springfield

(All sites operate between 8.00am and 12.00pm)

If any Gawler Orchid Club member wishes to take advantage of this

opportunity, please email our Treasurer, Rob Albrecht at
robertalbrecht30@gmail.com and your email will be forwarded to
Neutrog. For those without an email address, and still wish to take
advantage of this offer, please arrange for a friend (who has email) to
order on your behalf.

Photographer: As many will be aware, upon completion of my TAFE

studies, I will be moving to Darwin shortly after to begin my next
chapter in life. One of my current duties is photographing the winners
at both monthly meetings and seasonal shows. The Club is looking for
a replacement when I leave. The Club would provide a camera if
needed. You do not need to be an expert in the field but have an
interest in photography. I will guide you over the next several months
from what I have learnt over my many years and provide instructions
when it comes to shows. Remember this is your Club, No
photographer means No photos – Kyle.

sterilizers, Orchiata Bark, stakes, labels, various size pots, fertilizer.
Members may bring in plants to sell with NO COMMISSION to
CLUB. John will have a small supply (other than bark) at meetings.

Orchiata Bark. Members can purchase this from Cobb & Co.

Plants on Tables at Monthly Meetings: Members have requested

that plants remain on the table for 15/20 minutes after close of meeting
to enable them to see the plants. Your assistance in this regard would
be appreciated. These plants are for VIEWING ONLY, PLEASE DO
NOT TOUCH.
Review via E-Mail: The Club can now send out the ‘REVIEW’ by

Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty in an orchid, never
grows old – Roger Rankin Orchid Wise.

Registrars Report: There was an interesting number of genera on

display which made up an excellent display. This was the first time
that the number of plants in each division were equal. The winner in
2nd division was a nicely grown zygopetalum Z B.G. White
' Abbeyville '. This zygo has been around for many years. 3 spikes
with 5-6 flowers and two spikes in bud made a nice display. This
was grown by Ken Hinsliff. First divisions winner was C. Bactia
‘Forever Young’ grown by Ronald & Elizabeth Hannaford. A large
single spike with a large cluster of 18 individual flowers. The
flowers were purple in colour on the sepals and petals. The labellum
was a deeper purple. The winner in Open Division was Paph.
Harold Koopowitz. This was the same plant that won the division
last month. This month saw the top flower open. This made a good
presentation of the plant. This plant went onto win the Orchid of the
Night. – Graeme Hazledine

General advice Start a baiting and trapping programme as rats and mice numbers
will be bad this season as are ants. Ensure plenty of cover available
for show plants to avoid weather damage to blooms. Check shade
house for those dry spots after rain as these plants will not get any
water. With cooling weather and increasing humidity, fungal issues
such as botrytis become more prevalent.
