I will focus on how these sources present biases and the way the information is presented.

Well, let’s now have a look at this brief introduction of Tang Wei.
She was born on October 7, 1979 and became internationally famous after she played the female
lead in Ann Lee’s film ‘Lust, Caution’. Because of the content of this film, Tang Wei received a lot
of different reviews from individuals and media. Therefore, I would like to choose her as the topic
of my presentation. This introduction about Tang Wei is completely objective, because it only
contains facts and no emotional words has been used.

The second article is cited from Baidu News. Nowadays, Baidu is the most widely used searching
engine in China and this piece of news was published by an official newspaper. In this article, the
author first wrote about the Blue Dragon Award in Korea, and then mentioned that Tang Wei was
the first foreign actress to won the prize. There are also some information about Tang Wei’s past
experience and her works. Most of the information is presented in written form and there are
also several pictures in the article. As for the viewpoint, I think it is a good article with some facts
about Tang. Some of her awards and her own words are included in it. However, the last
paragraph is somehow biased because we can notice the writer’s own opinion from some word
choice like in this sentence ‘How much do Koreans like Tang Wei? I gave her
almost every award I could! ’, and in the last sentence ‘With her unique aura and
charm, Tang once again captivated the Korean audience, completing her role
with deep sensibility and firm eyes. ’ The writer chose words like unique, deep
sensibility and firm eyes to express her love on Tang Wei and her roles. All these word choices
and the pictures in this article show that this article contains some biased content, but there are
also objective facts and introduction about Tang Wei’s experience.

Next one is a video about Tang Wei, which is extracted from Weibo, the most popular social
website in China these days. The title of this video is ‘Tang Wei, the beauty, the beauty is here. A
little bit wild, a little bit dashing, beautiful with a little bit of cross! ’. So, from the title we can
notice that this video is very biased and also gives the public a feeling of stereotype of females.
And if we look at the video content, there are some edited pictures which makes her seem very
charming. This video shows us the positive side of Tang Wei from its title and content, so it is also
biased in this way.
第五页‘A statement about Tang Wei ’：
This statement about Tang is a little biased because of the selection of the content, such as Tang
Wei’s scandal, Tang Wei’s unstable work. All these negative and biased information about Tang
Wei, with public opinion and unconfirmed events, tell us that the writer of this piece is not very
objective.
最后一篇 An article bashing her
Now, I want to analyze the last article about Tang Wei. This article is selected from an online
forum in Baidu, so the content are all personal views. From the article, we can notice the writer’s
biased viewpoint through his word choice and tone, his heavy use of exclamation marks and
question marks, and the comparison between Tang Wei and other actresses. Some words, such
as despite, of low quality, sold my body, all indicate the writer’s narrow view of female actress.
