• Human being as the central part of learning


• Man is not a sophisticated machine
• Every man has the potential to develop himself and progress. This unique
values and goals guide his behaviour
• The role of teacher is that of a facilitator
• Students should be taught in democratic environment
• Experience is the primary phenomenon for learning
• Feelings are as important as facts

ROLE OF TEACHER

• Allow the student to have a choice in the selection of tasks and activities whenever
possible
• Help students learn to set realistic goals
• Have students participate in group work, especially cooperative learning, in order to
develop social and affective skills
• Teacher act as a facilitator for group discussions when appropriate
• Teacher being a role model for the attitudes, beliefs and habits you wish to foster

CARL ROGERS
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

• Carl Roger was an American psychologist


• He distinguished two types of learning
1. Cognitive learning
2. Experiential learning
COGNITIVE LEARNING

• It refers the academic learning such as learning vocabulary,


multiplication tables, historical events, geographical facts etc
• It is meaningless and useless
• It is subjected to some use
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

• It refers to the application of knowledge such as learning about engines inorder


to repair a car
• Experiential learning is learning from experience
• It is learner centered
• It considers learning as a natural part of personal growth and development
• It is learning by doing
• It emphasises needs and wants of learner
CHARACTERISTICS

• It is characterised by direct participation of the learner


• It is self initiated
• It is characterised by self evaluation
• Pervasive effects on learner
ROLE OF TEACHER

• Arranging favourable climate for learning


• Organising learning resources
• Sharing feelings and thoughts with learners
• Balancing intellectual and emotional components of learning
• Teacher should be a helper, guide and facilitator
• Teacher should be sincere and loyal to learners
BASIC CONDITIONS THAT FACILITATES
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
• Student participate completely in the learning process and has control
over its nature and direction
• It is based on direct confrontation with practical, social and personal
problems
• Self evaluation is the principal method of assessing progress or success
• Learner realises the importance of learning and develops an openness as
well as willingness to learn
EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS

• It is learner centered. Teacher’s role is to facilitate the teaching-learning


process
• Learner should be properly guided and kept on a proper track by the
teacher
• Learning must be linked with motives, goals and values of a learner
• Learning by doing is more important in experiential learning
