APPROACH # 2 (PIPESIM)

Flash calculations in PIPESIM are used to estimate the amount of moisture in natural gas
at any pipeline conditions. Since the amount of moisture is not provided with gas
composition because gas remains saturated with moisture until dehydrated and
saturation value depends on gas parameters (pressure and temperature).
The purpose is to evaluate the amount of saturated moisture in natural gas at compressor
discharge and SPP inlet. Thereafter, condensation volume will be estimated by using
simple calculations.
Northern Discharge Header:
Value of water in gas composition will be added as hit-and-trial to evaluate maximum
amount of water vapors that gas phase can hold. As evident from below screenshot, liquid
phase (free water, highlighted with dashed rectangle) exists in pipeline at SFGCS
Northern discharge when 1040.3 lb.moles water is present. Fluid must be tuned by
reducing the amount of water in composition so that the free liquid (water) phase is
eliminated.
Reducing the amount of water to 1040.2 lb.moles removes the liquid phase from fluid
stream. Therefore, this value will be taken for calculations as saturated moisture.

liquid phase
Similarly, value of saturated moisture at SPP inlet Header is estimated as under:

MW: Molecular Mass of water i.e. 18 lb/lb.mole
ρ: Density of water i.e. 62.4 lb/ft3
