CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

We can hear this traditional saying almost everywhere.Its meaning is so transparent that it
is easily understood by everyone.Everyone understands it, but in reality, does everyone really
know what it means? Education is really one of the most important tools that an individual could
use in their everyday lives. From the age of three, we started this lifetime commitment, an
unending process( David Pecoraro,2013). As a part of our education, schooling, or namely,
"going to school," is another term for this. But the deterioration of the essence of real education
is like drowning in a mud pool. Nowadays, most people refer to education as a lifetime
obligation. They tend to go to school as a requirement that needs to be fulfilled. But behind all of
these, what's the true meaning of education if they're not even present to learn it in the first
place? These opportunities are often neglected in the form of absenteeism.

To be absent for a day is normal, because students really do encounter such obstacles
along the way. But to be absent on consecutive days isn't normal anymore. The word
absenteeism means the absence of a student from class when he is scheduled to be present at
school/College when the teacher has no information in advance, that the student will not reputed
for class if he has taken leave to which he is entitled or on ground of sickness or in case of
accident. Thus absence may be authorized or unauthorized willful or caused by circumstances
beyond teacher's control. Educators have argued consistent school attendance is critical if
students are to build red and maintain a foundation for ongoing learning and academic success
throughout life.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
According to Maslow (1943) self-actualization involves helping people became all that
they are capable of becoming. If the teacher does not support students as they strive to
self-actualize this will cause them to be demotivated and eventually end up attending school
inconsistent.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The study was conducted in Aurelio Arago Memorial National High School,
Leido,Victoria Oriental Mindoro with 5 SMAW-11 Students of s.y. 2022-2023 as respondents.the
data were collected through a questionnaire. The study aimed to determine the effect or impact of
absenteeism of students. The instrument used is a questionnaire to know the effect on their daily
life of being absent in class.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


This research which aimed to determine the effect of absenteeism to the students will be
beneficial to the following:

School Administrator. The study may provide information as baseline data for
conducting programs for upgrading the focus to the students who are always being
absent.

Students. This study will be beneficial to the students to understand fully how being
absent in class affects your daily life.

Teachers. Results of this study may be an eye opener to the students to be better present
in class.

Future Researchers. This may serve as a basis for those future researchers to conduct
further and improved inquiry regarding students.
