Preface
The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) is the National Forum for Standardization. The
Brazilian Standards, the content of which is the responsibility of the Brazilian Committees (ABNT/CB), the
Sectorial Standardization Organisms (ABNT/ONS) and the Special Study Commissions (ABNT/CEE), are
prepared by Study Commissions (CE), formed by the parties interested in the theme object of
standardization.
ABNT Technical Documents are prepared according to the rules of ABNT Directive 2.
AABNT draws attention to the fact that, despite having been requested to comment on possible
patent rights during the National Consultation, these may occur and must be communicated to
ABNT at any time (Law No. 9,279, of May 14, 1996).
ABNT Technical Documents, as well as International Standards (ISO and IEC), are voluntary and do
not include contractual, legal or statutory requirements. ABNT Technical Documents do not replace
Laws, Decrees or Regulations, which users must comply with, taking precedence over any ABNT
Technical Document.
It should be noted that the ABNT Technical Documents may be cited in Technical Regulations. In

these cases, the bodies responsible for the Technical Regulations can determine the dates for
demanding the requirements of any ABNT Technical Documents.
ABNT NBR 6330 was prepared by the Brazilian Steel Committee (ABNT/CB-028), by the Commission for
the Study of Wire Rod, Wires and Artifacts (CE-028:002.002). The Revision Project circulated in National
Consultation according to Notice nº 04, of07.04.2020 to 08.06.2020.

scope
This standard sets out the conditions and requirements for the supply of hot-rolled steel wire rod,
specified by its chemical composition, for drawing and cold rolling. Does not include alloy steels.
NOTE Other steels other than carbon steel, containing low percentage alloying elements, may be produced
in accordance with this Standard. Thus, steels with addition of Boron, Chromium, Vanadium, Niobium and
Silicon, are practical examples of steels used in the manufacture of wire machine according to this standard.
This standard does not apply to wire rods for special applications covered by other specific standards, such as
wire rod for cold forged bolts and nuts and for welding electrodes, among others.

The nominal dimensions and tolerances of wire rod according to this Standard are indicated in ABNT
NBR 6354.
4.3.1Each coil must be properly compacted and tied, in order to allow its handling and transport
without risk of breakage.
4.3.2Depending on the capacity of the customer's handling equipment, by prior agreement, the
number of coils per bundle of wire rod must be established.
When supplying by race, each roll must be identified by an indelible label, firmly attached. The label
must indicate at a minimum:
b) steel grade;
c) race number;
4.5Certificate
4.5.1A quality certificate must be provided, containing the supply runs or batches, with at least the
following information:
b) steel grade;
4.5.2The certificate must accompany the invoice or, when previously agreed between the supplier
and the consumer, it can be done electronically.
4.6 Order
4.6.1When ordering wire rod, in accordance with this Standard, the buyer must indicate:
b) amount by mass;
c) steel grade;
4.6.2The tolerance cannot exceed ± 10% of the weight of the order or the nominal mass of a coil.
5Specific requirements
When the verification analysis on the product is foreseen, the admissible variations of the contents are
those indicated in Table 2.
5.2surface defects
5.2.2Defects such as cracks and scratches are allowed, as long as they do not exceed the depths
indicated in Table 3.
5.2.3The surface state is characterized by the maximum permissible depths of defects, indicated in
Table 3. In case of dispute, the determination of the depth of the defect is made by microscopic
examination. Table 3 is not applicable to wire rod to be used in the production of steel wires for
reinforced concrete. If necessary, the maximum acceptable limits must be subject to prior
agreement between producer and consumer.

6.2.3In the case of delivery by run, the unit is the run itself, up to 50 t, or the remaining fraction.
6.2.4In the case of a batch, the unit is also 50 t, or the remaining fraction.
6.2.5Each sample consists of a segment of a wire rod coil taken from a coil. and suitable for:
a) chemical analysis of verification, when carried out by prior agreement between the supplier and
the consumer, must be carried out on three samples taken, in different coils, from the same
receiving unit;
b) surface examination according to ABNT NBR NM 117, a sample must be taken for every 5 t or
remaining fraction.
6.3 Tests
6.3.1 Dimensional
The dimensional tolerances verification test, according to ABNT NBR 6354, must be carried out by
means of suitable measuring instruments.
NOTE Examples of measuring instruments for these cases are the micrometer or the caliper.
6.3.2surface defects
6.3.2.1The surface condition test is carried out according to one or more tests of ABNT NBR NM 117, and
as indicated in 5.2.2 and 5.2.3 of this Standard.
6.3.2.2In the case of unsatisfactory examination of the surface condition, carry out new tests at the
rate of two tests for each unsatisfactory one or carry out new tests coil by coil.
6.3.2.3In the case of rejection due to surface defects, by prior agreement between the supplier and
the consumer, the examination of all rolls in the receiving unit may be established.
6.3.3Chemical composition
6.3.3.1The determination of the chemical composition of the incoming inspection must be carried out by
optical spectrometry or another equivalent process, and the maximum permissible difference between the
values of the supplier's quality certificate and the chemical analysis of the product must meet the values
specified in Table 2.
6.3.3.2In case of unsatisfactory chemical analysis results, new tests are carried out at the rate of two
tests for each unsatisfactory one, carried out on other coils.
6.3.4.1The run or batch is accepted when all test results referring to the samples taken meet the
provisions of this Standard.
Copy for exclusive use - SOUTH SERVICE TRADING SA - 93.101.632/0001-22 (Order 867173 Printed: 04/25/2023)
6.3.4.2If one or more of these results do not satisfy the aforementioned requirements, the coil(s)
from which the sample(s) was taken must be separated. and may be rejected. In this case, other
samples are taken for retesting as per 6.3. The run or batch is accepted if all test results for the new
samples are satisfactory. The run or batch may be rejected if any of these new results do not meet
the specification.
6.3.4.3Other forms of acceptance and rejection of coils or the questioned lot can be agreed between
the parties involved.
