Treat yourself to a cycling adventure
through the Soča valley! Mountain
bikers can sweat and sunbathe on the
steep slopes of the Julian Alps high
above Bovec, Kobarid, and Tolmin,
enjoy the views from Kolovrat, and
explore the lovely Šentvid plateau, the
remote villages above Baška grapa,
or the picturesque borderland area of
Slavia Friulana. Road cyclists should
not miss the climb over Vršič (1,611
m), the highest road pass in Slovenia,
while an even bigger challenge might
be the climb up the highest road in Slo-
venia, which leads to the Mangart sad-
dle (2,040 m). If you’d rather an easier
time on the pedals, try the routes along

The tourist destination of Bohinj is in
the heart of the Julian Alps. Its most
famous attraction is Lake Bohinj, nes-
tled like a jewel in a crown of moun-
tains. More than 2/3 of Bohinj is lo-
cated within Triglav national park. A
bicycle is the perfect tool to explore the
dirt roads that wind through the area’s
trees and meadows, where you will
avoid the flow of traffic, and through
the narrow village roads, where you
will not be in anyone’s way. You can opt
for a bit of “Sunday cycling” along the
11 km bike path from Bohinjska Bistri-
ca, past the lake, and on to Srednja vas,
or you can choose a rush of adrenaline
on the steeper mountain biking trails.
Only the most hardened road cyclists
will run out of asphalt! Bohinj is sim-
ply too gorgeous to ride past.

Lake Bled is the icon of Slovenian
