Elements of art are significant in all art forms for a reason that an artist cannot create
art without utilizing at least a few of them. Knowing what the elements of art are, it empowers
us to depict what an artist has done, break down what is happening in a specific piece and
impart our considerations or thoughts. As I analyze this picture of the historical landscape that I
took of “The Ruins” different elements can be seen such as the color, shape and space.
Different colors can be seen in the picture and each of those colors complement to another
thus giving life to the landscape making it more realistic and it emphasized the shapes that
forms the structure of the ruins giving the three dimensional appearance thus to the realistic
structure or appearance of the landscape. The element of color made this picture outstand
because it presented the ruins as if it is like a castle. The element of value is also present in the
picture in which there where black areas thus giving the focus on the main subject of the
picture. When it comes to the principles, you can see the unity of all elements that were used in
the landscape, repeating elements like the plants or the tree surrounding the ruins made it
possible in order to create a common theme in the landscape. Balance is also present because
as you can see there is a sense of equality in the landscape. The landscape composition is
balanced with the use of the elements present in it. Lastly, proportion is also seen in the
landscape in which this caused the size of every element to be proportionate with the other. In
conclusion, the landscape was made possible and can be really called a BEAUTY because of the
combined elements and principles that were utilized in the picture. Without those, the
landscape would not be as dreamy and magical as it is now and this is a real proof that the
elements and principles are not just mere lines, shapes, value, balance, harmony and more
rather they are the building blocks of every artist to make every artwork a reality and letting it
outstand in the crowd.
