The ability of students in language skills has decrease since online learning

implementation. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic that has been spread on July 26th 2021,
more than 7289 cases have been recorded each day.1 This things had been evidenced in data
on the number of cases of Covid-19 by “Ministry Education, Culture, Research and
Technology”, as follows :
Based on these data, the drastic increase in Covid-19 has caused a lot of impact in
several aspect. In fact that, it has impacted on education sector in Indonesia, which has
changed the education system become online learning. Students must undergo a distance
learning process and study at home so that learning activities switch to digital. The results of a
survey conducted by UNICEF showed that 66% of 60 million students throughout Indonesia
said they were uncomfortable studying at home during the pandemic. 2 As a result, many
students experience a decrease in their ability to learn in all aspects, one of which is in
learning decreasing language skills.
In addition, based on official data, Google Translate's active users on its online site
have reached 200,000,000 people every month, and 79% of them are students. 3 The large use
of Google Translate proves that there are still many people who have not mastered the use of
language properly, in terms of language acquisition or language skills, especially among
students. This happend both from the aspect of low language communication, language
understanding, or language delivery. The deficiency in language skills decreases, when online
learning is implemented, students barely communicate, within the scope of family, friends,
relatives, they only focus on the new learning concepts. So as a result, there has been a
“decreasing language skills” lately. This shows that there is a major problem in learning
authenticity which causes the education system that has been changed dan caused an impact
on students during online learning, this is in accordance with research results “Online
Learning During a Pandemic Literature issued” by the ministry of education 2021, as follows:
Based on these data, a decrease in the ability of students can be obtained while online
learning activities take place. The decreasiation occurred with a fairly large difference in
numbers, difference: 8-10. Based on these data, the main cause of the decrease in percentage
figures is decreasing language skills. This happens because the initial purpose of online
learning is to function as the formation of learning processes, knowledge through action and
interaction didn’t work as well.4 However, it raises problems for students, including:
1. Students have to be in front of the computer for a long time,
2. Students are burdened with assignments even if they don’t understand,
3. They cannot interact with their fellow students directly, so their communication skills are
decrease,
4. They feel pressured in the long situations of online learning, so that their language skills
to communicate and speaks in public are decrease.5

From the data is also strengthened proven by the suicide case of junior high school
students in Tarakan City. He got pressure due to piling up of assignments and demands to
complete assignments perfectly until he end his life on October 30th, 2020.6 This experience
happened because interest in learning in a low language, thus causing low achievement of
effort in good language and causing a feeling of inferiority or embarrassment when they see if
the students or other individuals who can dominate in language skills better than the
individual it self, this causes the enthusiasm for learning the language of students to decrease
which is caused by the language abilities of other students being superior and having higher
achievements, From this problem, the researcher of this essay made an innovation in an effort
to overcome the decreasing of language skills in online learning and student productivity so
that students will be more active and motivated, namely with a mindset system: “PoV (Point
of View)”
Point of view is a mindset system by looking at the ability of other people who has
abilities and skills more than us to spur more action that we can do, by seeing that person as a
means of generating our self-enthusiasm in carrying out an action. This mindset aims to
generate enthusiasm for students by applying the concept of thinking that other people have a
higher enthusiasm for learning languages, so that it becomes a spur in taking action,
especially in digital developments and social media. The application of this concept of mind
can spur them to improve their language skills by getting out of their safe zone, and applying
the perspective to others that we have to try as hard as possible even more than what other
people do, so that we cannot lose ourselves.
On the other hand we can take advantage of digitalization developments in social
media era, many effects have appeared from social media, including positive and negative.
From this case, the concept of thinking is needed which can filter which ones can be used as a
reference and can be used as self-motivation. Pov (Point of view) can be used as a systematic
mindset that can inspire students to overcomedecreasing language skills. The following
include positive motivators that can be used as a generator of motivation in
treatmentimprovement in speech and language skills:
Many famous people appearing on social media, students can improve their language
skills by seeing them and applying the concept of PoV thinking. Students will later be able to
get out of their comfort zone and become better individuals, productive, and have a strong
determination in learning to improve language skills. The application of this thinking concept
can provide good options for students to think, by looking at other people's role models, as an
effort to generate enthusiasm in improving language skills. This can be done as follows:

1. Choose: in social media students must first choose a role model or person who will be used
as a “Point of View”
2. Observe: make researching and assessing about the behavior, style, and language of the
person to know whether a person is appropriate to be used as a role model

3. View & watch: make careful and thorough observations of the person who will serve as a
role model
4. Find the point: find the main benefits and points that can be learned and taken in
developing and motivating yourself, especially in improving language skills from seeing
that person
5. Make improvements: from the points that have been obtained, then implement them in our
needs and lives as an effort to make improvements and individual development of
language skills.
The effectiveness of PoV (Point of View) in the application of online learning is being
able to develop skills in self-correction by introspecting students, so they can keep develop,
overcoming all problems experienced. The application of point of view is carried out with the
concept of mind, when students carry out an activity by constantly correcting themselves,
these students will be able to develop and be able to overcome all the problems they will get,
especially in the era of digitalization and social media development.
The conclusion of this essay is that the PoV (Point of View) can becomes an effective
problem solver in overcoming the regression in language skills experienced by students due to
problem solving online learning in Covid-19, which is also accompanied by the development
of people in media social. A mindset system that sees the advantages of other people's
abilities to spur more action that can be done by developing oneself and becoming a spirit
generator to improve language skills.The cultivation of point of view thinking in online
learning can produce a very significant impact on improving student learning processes,
because in the application of the concept of thought students can find out how strong the
determination must be made, the business objectives to be achieved, and the spirit of
motivation, as well as an innovation facing laziness, unproductiveness and decreased
enthusiasm for learning. Thus, PoV can be an alternative to arouse student’s learning
enthusiasm in improving language skills and motivating themselves to keep progressing in the
future.
