Reading in Philippine History

Lesson 1.2 Learning Task

If you are to write about your family history, list down at least 5 possible sources and
details on how you would process these sources. Classify these sources into either
primary or secondary, intentional or unintentional, and written, material, or oral.

Oral Evidence - My dad and mom have been together for 30 years. I would talk to them and ask them to
share with me information about when, where, and how they started dating and became a married
couple. As well, I would ask my parents about their life after getting married and after they have my
three older siblings and me.

Primary Source - I would ask my family to write and share with me their memoirs, like their biography,
diaries, and my sibling's journals that they have during their elementary and high school years.

Secondary Source - After my family write a written history as the primary source, I will have and write a
secondary source about it. I will also write and narrate our history from my perspective and share my
interpretation and reflection.

Intentional Source - I would make a family history in an intentional source. I will make a documentary
about our family history from my perspective to other people and for the next generation.

Written Documents (Social Document) - I will write our family history in a written document using my
family's social papers, like birth and marriage certificates.

Look for an old dated document at home or school. Examine the document for key
icons or words which would give an approximation of the accuracy of the document to
the period of its publication (without looking at the date).

I have here a document and certification of my father from Cebu Central Colleges, where he
finished his degree of Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration. The key icons or words
that would give an approximation of the accuracy of the document to the period of its
publication is the name of the school itself, which is the Cebu Central Colleges. My father
graduated from Cebu Central College in the year 1983. At this time, this school is known as the
University of Cebu.
