1. Hello everyone, my name is Fauzan. I am from [sebut nama kelas].

You may know me as the [kamu biasanya dikenal sebagai si paling
apa, atau panggilan atau apalah identitas mu di sekolah, misal: You
may know me as the one that always remind the teachers about our
homework, LOL]. But here, at this stage, I am going to be the one to
remind us all about our very own home, the earth. You do know that
we live on earth, right? [said jokingly]. Well, in case anyone did not
aware, yes, we do.
2. And to the best of human knowledge, our home, earth, is the only
habitable planet in the universe. Yes, Elon Musk of Tesla and Jeff
Bezos of Amazon are trying to move to Mars or whatever, but even
when they did successfully manage to do that, I don’t think that we
are invited to ride the spaceship with them. So, let’s just agree that
we are all going to live on earth until we die. Okay?
3. Enough about the earth. Let’s move on to our country, Indonesia. Do
you know that Indonesia is the largest island country in the world?
No? Wow, you must have never listened to [Pak/Bu siapa yg ngajar
Geografi, masih ada ga pelajaran itu jaman sekarang]. That is bad
guys, do not do that again. Please listen to all the teachers seriously
from now on. You know who you are. Don’t act like you don’t.
4. As the largest island country in the world, one of the most important
challenges that we faced is climate change. The earth is now
suffering from increasing temperature from global warming, which
makes severe weather more frequent, which definitely will have the
implication for an island country like Indonesia. When the earth gets
hotter, the sea level increases, and that can cause small islands to
sink. Big islands will survive longer, but if we cannot stop the global
warming, sooner or later it will sink too.
5. That is the scenario that we do not want to happen. Especially here,
in Samboja, when we live so close the sea. I am sure you realized it

too, right? That the beaches are slowly moving further inland, the
drought has becoming more severe, and the flooding and landslide
has becoming more frequent. Those are all the effect of global
warming. Yes, illegal mining is big factor too, but the severe weather
has certainly made it more painful for us.
6. When we are younger, like in elementary school, I remember that
the flooding in Samboja is much less frequent compared to today.
So it is like a big deal. I will ask my parents to bring me to see the
flooded area, since it is rare. But now, it happens every other week.
Every time the heavy rain falls, certain part of Samboja will get
flooded. And we suffer because we cannot go to this lovely school in
peace. We worry about our clothes getting wet, we are worry about
whether we can cross the flooded area, we are worry about
[tambahin aja kalo ada].
7. How can we stop this global warming? Or more importantly, can we
stop it? What do you think? The optimist will say, yes, of course we
can. There will always be the light at the end of the tunnel.
Meanwhile the pessimist will say, there is no way. It will keep goes
on and on and on until we all die, or the earth being unhabitable, like
in Wall-E movie. For me, I will answer it with a quote from
Pramoedya Ananta Toer in his Buru Quartet, ”as long as the
suffering comes from humans, not a natural disaster, it can also be
resisted by humans”.
8. Teenagers like us may not be able yet to put a stop the global
warming by creating green policy or stopping the illegal mining or
creating more sustainable infrastructure. But that does not mean
that we cannot do anything at all.
9. We can contribute to stop global warming by using less electricity;
creating more green area in our home, our school, our land; create

less waste by reduce, reuse, and recycle; and most importantly,

makes our voice heard.
10. We, the Gen Z, are the future generations. We are not afraid of
changes, we embrace it. When the pandemic prevented us from go
to school, we studied online. When the TV does not air our choice of
movies, we online stream it. When our friend’s houses are so far
away and there is no way to meet them there, or close but again,
there are flood on the way, we videocall them or play online game
with them. When there is no stage to show our dances, we upload it
to TikTok. That is our strength, we embrace change. We welcome it.
11. So, when we are making a greener choice to help the earth, put it
online, so our actions can be seen, so our voices can be heard. And
hopefully, the adult will watch and listen, and then learn, that there
are ways to help Samboja be better, be greener, and be safer for
everyone. Do your part, and I will do my part. Thank you for
listening.
