WILDFIRES
ABOUT WILDFIRES
It is an uncontrolled fire that burns
in the wildland vegetation, often in
rural areas.

They are not limited to a particular

continent or environment and they
can happen at any time and in any
place if the conditions are right.
Can be caused by any of the Earth’s 4 subsystems.

ATMOSPHERE
HYDROSPHERE
GEOSPHERE
BIOSPHERE
IN THE ATMOSPHERE
Exosphere
The final layer stretches into space and houses satellites.

Thermosphere
This is the hottest layer because it absorbs the sun's radiation. Auroras occur in this layer.

Mesosphere
The coldest layer which protects us from meteors because they burn up in this layer.

Stratosphere
The ozone is found in this layer protecting us from UV rays

Troposphere
The layer in which we live and weather occurs.
IN THE HYDROSPHERE
Condensation

Precipitation Evaporation

Collection
IN THE GEOSPHERE ash cloud

crater lava flow

sill conduit

magma chamber cone

IN THE BIOSPHERE
These subsystems are interconnected to each other. Having just one of the
subsystems affected can lead to another being affected as well

GEOSPHERE HYDROSPHERE
BIOSPHERE
THE ATMOSPHERE
It affects the atmosphere
because :

Wildfires contaminate the air

with toxic pollutants and
simultaneously impact the
climate.
THE BIOSPHERE
The biosphere is composed of all the
ecosystems on earth where there is life.

So the effect on the atmosphere also

affects the biosphere. Since the pollutants
affect the plant life in the Greenland
biomes of the biosphere.
THE GEOSPHERE
The effect on the biosphere also
affects the geosphere :
By destroying vegetation,
forest fires can eliminate
many of the mechanisms used
to prevent erosion by plant life
developing roots to hold soil in
place.
THE HYRDOSPHERE
The debris from the mudslide
could also be washed down
into a source of freshwater or
Clouds
the ocean.

Glaciers

Lakes

Oceans Ground Water Rivers

Though after the smoke has cleared there are some
long-term advantages to wildfires:

It allows for ecosystem

resets for the habitats
affected.
while surviving plants are given space to
grow, animals are allotted an excuse to
explore and possibly migrate to new
areas while the insects richen the soil.
