We are from Group 6 would like to share our observation regarding Allegheny County Courthouse
circulation

Before we get to the observation, we have to know the function of our building.

Like most of the courthouse, Allegheny County Courthouse functions to undertake such cases for the
judges to hear.

And because of the beautiful look, the courthouse often uses as a wedding venue.

Now let’s get to know what is Circulation.

Circulation refers to the way people move throughout a building, and also occurs prior to entering a
building, as people approach a structure.

A good circulation in a building indicated with predictable path, how we move subconsciously from
one place to another.

There are 5 Circulation Elements,

Approach, Entrance, Configuration of Path, Path-Space Relationship, Form of the Circulation Space

First, Approach

It is the path you take in order to reach to the building

For this courthouse, the approach is frontal because it was built adjacent to the streets

Next, Entrance

Entrance can be expressed by the use of two columns and an overhead beam,

For this courthouse the entrance using giant arch and grand stairs.

Next, Configuration of Path

There are various paths configuration but in here they use combination of network and grid path

Next, Path-Space Relationship

Despite the use of wide pathway, in this courthouse we walk along the fixed path

And Last, Form of Circulation

Mostly, it is enclosed inside with high ceiling to make us feel tiny

And a public open space in the centre of the courthouse

-Able to provide breaks between rooms.

-Circulation space in the house can have a positive impact, such as the space looks more spacious.

Linear pattern is a straight path which can be the main forming element of a series of spaces.

-radial

The radial room type is a development of the first type of room, except that in this type the backs
face each other so that the faces point outward and there is no access to enter.

-spiral

The spiral pattern is a continuous path that originates from a central point, revolves around it and
increases distance from it.

-network

This pattern consists of several paths that connect unified points in space.
