CONCEPTUAL BOARD

DESIGN CONCEPT

– The concept of the design is a square and rectilinear form. As you can see on the outside, it
creates the illusion of three boxes, indicating that there are more than two genders who can use this
facility, which is different from what we're used to, and with this design, we include the rights of our
LGBTQIA members to use public restrooms.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

1. SANITATION- We make sure to put a disinfection area in the entrance to make sure that
everyone will get sanitized before and after using the facility.
2. VENTILATION- We put some Air ventilators, that’s why the middle part of the building is slightly
elevated to get fresh air above that can circulate the building.
3. DOORS- To prevent virus spread, push plates are used on the doors so that they can be easily
pushed open. We've also made the entrance doors wider for our people with disabilities who
use wheelchairs.
4. MATERIALS- We considered using materials that are easy to maintain and last a long time, such
as solid quartz for the countertop and glazed porcelain for the walls and floor. We chose to paint
the other areas with a white glossier paint so that moisture can be easily wiped away.
5. AVOIDING VANDALISM- We use a dark shade of bricks on the outside to avoid vandalism on the
walls.
6. SIGNAGES- We provide signage in the restrooms to avoid confusion to the users.
7. MOTHERS’ NEED- We consider the mothers that will need to breastfeed and change their baby’s
diapers, so we provide a special area for them.

DESIGN RATIONALE

I've been tasked with designing a gender-neutral public restroom for Tarlac City Plazuela. I
began to understand who the users would be to properly place the spaces that will be required. Then I
move on to the design and considerations that must be completed. The design concept is square and
rectilinear that’s why I decided to keep the exterior as simple as possible.
