Tom Verghese expressed his idea towards the concept of “culture” by has a
speech. In the speech he associated “Culture” as the medium which makes people
look at other parts worldwide, but he disagreed with culture is visible, because his
opinion was people cannot feel their culture until out of where they from, he also
made example with fish out of the water to prove this. He also thought culture
influences people’s behaviour and thinking by shaping them insensibly. To further
explanation, Tom said all people are at the bottom of a triangle, culture is in the
middle of it. People shared some same culture while others are different, “Culture
Sensibility” also has a significant function among people from different parts
worldwide. However, sometimes the culture cannot be perfectly suitable for all cases.
Tom shared his own story about his wife copying Indian culture trying to to use hands
to eat but failed. Thus, people still need to pay more attention to on how to have a
balance on culture.
