Technology

In EAP we will mainly be using two different platforms:

A. Teams

You should aim to use the app version of this as the web
version can be slow to synch. The app is updated quite
often so make sure you check for updates regularly.

Teams is the main platform we will use for our class. This
includes:

1) A General Channel – this is where I will send any

messages to the whole class and also where I will
put most worksheets for class. These will mostly be
in General Channel > Files > S1 Week …

Unless I tell you otherwise make sure you download the

worksheets before working on them, otherwise
everyone else will see your answers.

2) A Private Individual Channel - This is where you will

do some individual work and also put your homework.
Additionally, it is where I will put your mark sheets
for assessments.

3) A Homework Channel - This is where I will give

details of your homework each week. Don’t post your
homework in this channel or everyone else will be
able to see it!

Using ‘Chat’ on Teams is the best way to communicate

with me, though you can also use email
(cheath@trinity.unimelb.edu.au).
Teams will also be our back up if the class ever needs to
move online due to covid, severe weather or any other
problem.

B. TCOLE

If you haven’t done so already, please enrol yourself on

the EAP.AUG TCOLE course.

Teaching Materials: EAP TCOLE is like a textbook - there

are a lot of materials for each week (and a lot of
homework). Sometimes we will follow the lesson as it
appears on TCOLE, but other times we may use different
materials. Moreover, we will not always do activities in
the exact same order as TCOLE lists them. If you are
unsure whether you need to do something look at the
Homework Channel on Teams or ask me.

Resources: Under this tab, you will find useful resources

such as a Referencing Guide and the links to Research
Databases.

Assessments: Under this tab you will find the details of all
assessments (including deadlines and the marking
criteria). It is also where you will find the link to submit
some written assessments.

AI (including ChatGPT) & Translation Apps

Please do not use these for your work. In assessments we

will take measures to ensure the work is your own (eg
handwriting the first assessment) but it is also important
that you don’t use these for practice exercises that we do
in class or for your homework. I will be giving you short
pieces of writing to check your progress/understanding so
it is not helpful if the answers you submit are not your own
work as I may think you have grasped something you have
not and this might have consequences in the assessment.
At present AI apps are not allowed to be used for
academic work at the University of Melbourne and as we
are preparing you to study there we are following the
same policies.
