Flag Burning Ceremony. - Remarks By: Pharaoh McMillian, ATC,

USN(Ret) Area 12 Naval Science Instructor
Jefferson County NJROTC hosted a community event where the patrons were able to
learn a little more about the US Flag, the Flag Code, and even participate in a solemn
ceremony where we ceremoniously burned the flags for subsequent burial. The flags
came in many sizes and were made of many different materials, so the process was an
arduous task at times. The sun was certainly out in full effect today and it also tested our
mettle.

41 Cadets found the resilience to take up this challenge today and emerged victorious. In
total we burned approximately 150 flags collected over time from different community
members. Parents came out as well as some other VIPs as the cadets told me. I spent my
time tending the fire for safety and for efficiency.

Even if the student learned nothing from today's activities, they still demonstrated
superior patriotism and willingness to endure for the greater good of the team. Even
though every cadet did not attend the event, overall we represented well and in keeping
with the Spirit of Warrior Excellence.

Lost and Found
BY: KLAUDIA CRACKEL
Farther and farther we fall
Watching the sky fall as we do
Eyeing the rain, dripping like a cry
We are lost beneath the sky.

Deeper, and deeper we sink

The water covers our body yet we do not panic
We keep our head above the tide, and cry with the wind
We feel the ground beneath us now and then.

Louder, and louder we scream

No one listens, no one cares
We scream anyway, desperate to be heard.
We are lost, caught in the wind like a bird.

Higher and higher we climb.

We see the light of day and we’re desperate to reach it.
Oue hand raises and we touch the sun’s rays
We gratefully embrace the day.

Happier and happier we become as the end of the day draws near.
We smile, we laugh, we play
Like once before in the depth of darkness, we now know warmth and light
We are no longer lost, for we are found, far from night.
