Emergency repair plan for Catenary broken pole

On June 17, 2023 at 16:30 the OCS patrol teams and Rail car drivers

on site who have been on emergency patrol found a broken and fallen

mast number #304 at a mileage of k479+490. Then immediately they

reported back to Dire Dawa Comprehensive Infrastructure Maintenance

Centre. As soon as the emergency is reported, we have been organized the

emergency response plan which includes a working team and material

required as follows:

Team members: Power supply Engineers in charge of the section,

dispatcher, all workshop staffs, the on-duty personnel of the substation

duty officers, the catenary emergency vehicle teams, Team leader, Safety

and technical education, OCS inspectors and the track operation team in

the work area.

After the emergency repair team arrives at the fault point, follow the

unified command of the person in charge, first set up protection.

Technical procedures

1. After reaching the site, test electricity and install grounding wires on

two sides,

2. Using the rail crane, pick the broken mast from the ground in order to

avoid equipment damage when removing from the mast

3. Dismantle the materials attached to the broken mast,

4. Remove the broken mast, put it away and clean the area,

5. Excavate 3-meter-deep pit to install new mast and install the new

mast using track crane,

6. Erect the mast and adjust it using mast adjusting device,

7. Check the angle, backfill and compact the soil to the foundation of

the mast,

8. Measure the distance from the edge of the mast to the mid-point of
the track,

9. Installing and fixing the upper and bottom base cantilevers,

10. Installing the registration devices (cantilevers, Steady arm,

registration device and soon),

11.Install stay wire on the mast to ground having its standard of length.

12.Re-install the catenary wires (Contact and messenger wires),

13. Repair any damage on the catenary wires,

14. Adjust the tension of catenary system using the pulley attached to

the balance weight,

15. Adjust the contact wire by connecting droppers to the messenger

wires,

16. Measure the height of the contact wire using laser measurement

device,

17. Adjust the height of contact wire using ladder/rail crane if there is

any deviation,

18. After confirming the whole adjustment and maintenance work

remove the ground wire, evacuate workers and equipment from the

site, then report to the leader and,

19.After the leader has confirmed the power on, check the electricity

and confirm.
