Requesting – One Word Phrases (Nouns)

Goal: Increase requesting for varied items by presenting numerous trials throughout the session

Instructional Procedure:
 Contrive situations: Present the student with opportunities to request. Wait 3 seconds for a response. If the student mands praise and follow
through
 If student does not mand, provide a verbal model (e.g., “[NOUN]”). The student should repeat the word, then do a transfer trial – Say: “What?”
and the student should repeat the mand one more time.
 When the student says the word (prompted), give a small amount. Then 2 seconds later, present the requesting opportunity again. If the student
mands within 3 seconds, praise and follow through, giving a longer amount of time with the item. If not, then repeat the error correction
procedure.
Frequency Per Hour of Prompted and Unprompted Protests
 Use a clicker – Count each contrived mand (a transfer trial/error correction procedure counts as only one mand)
 Divide # of mands per length of session to get COUNT PER HOUR

Do NOT teach “I want” – Teach spontaneous manding with a NOUN only – ONE WORD ONLY
