processing equipment.
− When moving the device from a cold to a warm environment, do not
operate it for at least two hours to prevent possible damage caused by
condensation.
− Only use the original packaging material to transport the device.
− Observe the warning and information labels on the device.
− This device is equipped with a safety-tested power cable which must be
connected only to a suitable grounded outlet.
− Always hold the plug when removing the power cable. Never pull the cable
itself.
− Install all cables in such a way that they will not be stepped on or tripped
over or damaged and pinched in any other way.
− Have damaged cables replaced immediately.
− Make sure that there is always free access to the sockets used or to the
electrical circuit-breakers of the house installation.
− In case of an emergency (e. g. damaged cabinets, controls or power
cables, liquids or foreign objects in the device) observe the following
instructions:
Lithium batteries
There is danger of fire or explosion if the batteries are handled
incorrectly. It is therefore important to note the following points:
–Avoid short circuits.
–Never recharge the battery.
–Avoid temperatures above 100°C.
–Do not try to open the battery by force.
–Do not allow the battery to come into contact with water or fire.
• Open the device door (see chapter "Basic Operation", section "Opening /
closing the device doors" in the operating manual).
Switch off the power switch at the
power distributor.
• To ensure that the entire device is disconnected from power, you must
interrupt the power supply in the fuse box by switching off the circuit-
breaker or by removing the fuse in the distributor box of the house
installation.

Outline
The chapter "Introduction" describes the important safety precautions. It also
gives an overview of the possible functions of the ProCash 2050xe.
The features are also described in the chapter "Introduction" in the section
"Technical data”.
In the chapter "Function and Integration" you will find the block diagrams and a
short description of the main functions of the device.
This is followed by the chapters describing the components which are used or
can be used.
The next chapter "Removal/Installation of Components" provides detailed
information on how to remove and install each component.
Finally, the chapter "Maintenance and Service" contains information on
maintenance work to be carried out regularly.
Supplementary documentation
For the operation and installation of the system, separate manuals are
available in several languages.
These manuals can be ordered from our print partner. They are also available
in the intranet.
Usually the manufacturers' original manuals for OEM components are included
in the shipment. They may contain more detailed information.
Manual release
Since production began, some components have been replaced for various
reasons (e. g. progress in technology, cost reduction).
Often the hardware replacement does not result in a changed construction of
the device (mechanical or electrical) or the functional integration.
In this case, the new component is added to the service manual and the
previous component remains in the respective chapter.
If the integration of a new component results in changes, the corresponding
chapters will be adapted (e. g. block diagrams, removal/installation, preventive
maintenance, etc.).

Description
The power supply unit 01750049728 supplies all components that do not have
their own power supply with the required DC voltages.
The power supply unit is designed for the voltage range 115 / 240 V and is
automatically set to the line voltage supplied. However, the voltage (115 V or
230 V) must be set with a slide switch to define the limiting values for detection
of undervoltage at power input.
The power supply unit has no main switch and changes automatically to
standby mode when line voltage is applied. In this operating mode, standby
voltages only (- 12 V, + 5.2 V and + 12 V) are supplied.
A data interface controls the on/off functions of the power outputs (switched
voltages of + 5.2 V, + 12 V, and + 25 V).
Safety functions
Short-circuit
If a short-circuit occurs at the outputs, the power supply unit switches off
immediately. It switches on again automatically.
Output signal
NAN: The signal is created by the power supply unit if the power supply
drops below 170 V (switch position 230 V) or 85 V (switch position
115 V) for more than 26 (± 4) ms.
Voltage level below the set value: NAN = Low
Input signals
Power failure
Standby voltages (- 12 V, + 5.2 V und + 12 V) are automatically supplied again
following a power failure. In contrast, the voltages switched for the power
outputs (+ 5.2 V, + 12 V and + 25 V) are switched on in compliance with the
conditions described above.

Mode of operation
As soon as the line voltage is applied to the power supply unit, the special
electronics is ready to operate. The logic has 2 operating states.
− Switched on status Indicator: green LED
− Standby status Indicator: red LED
In the switched on state of the system, the red LED is alternately switched on
and off each time the pushbutton switch is operated. The lit status of the red
LED is communicated to the program as 'switch-off request'. The program then
switches the special electronics to standby status via a corresponding job.
Depending on the type of job, the logic is switched off as follows:
− Permanent OFF Indicator: red LED
− Momentary OFF (cold start) Indicator: red LED +
green LED flashes
In standby mode, all individual components of the system are switched off and
the special electronics module processes only the signals of the key.
Switch-on characteristics
When the line power is turned on, the last operating state before the line
power was turned off will be restored automatically. If the special electronics is
in standby mode, the ON/OFF key must be pushed. The self-service system is
then powered up with a delay of approx. 6 seconds.
STNANT: Using this signal the special electronics can control via the
configuration job, whether the power supply unit turns the switchable
voltages off automatically in accordance with the NAN switch-off
conditions or not.
UPS mode
Usually, specific status signals (e.g. end of capacity or switch-on status) can
be scanned electronically and an external control can be performed with
uninterruptible power supplies.
The two yellow LEDs may be used as follows:
UPS active/power failure Indicator: yellow LED next to the red LED
End of capacity Indicator: yellow LED next to the green LED

Manual installation
i For error-free installation the configuration program ECCFG.EXE
assumes that the card to be configured is built in.
• Install gateway software at DOS level from the first floppy with a:\setup
<Return>.
Enter the boot drive when prompted (e. g. C:). Select target drive for
installation (e.g. C:).
Enter the directory to which the software is to be copied (e.g. C:\OSIGate).
Answer 'No' when the setup software asks you whether you wish to install
X.PAD (OSI).
The same applies to the 802.2 protocol (SNA).
i Ensure that the changes are written into a batch file, and, when exiting
from the setup program, enter them manually in AUTOEXEC.BAT
before running NCPSTART.EXE.
Configuration
• F4 for Config.
• Save the configuration with <F2 Save> and page to the gateway settings
using <F4 Config>.
• Ask your network administrator for the values required for the setting. If an
executable installation already exists, you can print out the configuration
and then make the entries.
• Save the setup by pressing <F2 Save> and quit by pressing <F10 Quit>.
• Then edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file as described above (also see the
examples in the appendix).
If settings are to be changed later, you can call the configuration program
ECCFG.EXE again.
Copy OSI or SNA gateway software from diskette to hard disk and
configure:
• Confirm the product number xxx-xxx-xx; version xx.xx.xx; feature: xxxx with
<OK> and have it installed.
The 'Install-directories' screen is displayed.
• Select the Eicon Card / PC (EC/PC), C21, S51 or C91 with the spacebar in
the 'Select the components that you want to install' field.
• Select the installation directory and confirm with <Install>.
The configuration program ECCFG.EXE is started automatically.
The 'Gateway Configuration' screen is displayed.
• Confirm the configuration file EC.CFG and the installation directory with
<F4 Config>.
'Hardware Configuration' screen is displayed.
• Page with <F4 Config> to the gateway settings. Ask your network
administrator for the required gateway settings.
• Save with <F2 Save> and exit the ECCFG.EXE configuration program with
<F10 Quit>.
With SNA Connect, the SNA configuration program ECSNACFG.EXE is also
called automatically: The 'Node Configuration' screen is displayed.
• Page with <F3 Add> to the protocol selection. Select the required protocol
with the function keys and then enter the parameters. Save with
<F2 Save> and exit from the screen with <F10 Cancel>, page back with
<F10 Quit> and confirm 'Exit to System' with <F1 Confirm>.
A message appears, which indicates that the software has been installed and
that CONFIG.SYS has been modified.
It is recommended that you reboot your PC.
During the reboot the message is displayed that the ECBIOS Eicon Card
Driver is being installed. ECCARD START is called. The program is linked at
the first start, the card is initialised, and the ports are activated.
If settings are to be changed later, the configuration program ECCFG.EXE or
ECSNACFG.EXE can be called again. The programs are in the BIN
subdirectory of the default directory (e. g. \EICON\BIN\ECCFG).
• The card is installed by pressing the button <Add> under Network Card.
• Specify the directory for the EICON CD in the window 'Insert floppy':
e.g.<CD-ROM drive>:\
Automatic installation
When the card is installed automatically, an attempt is made to detect the card
in the system and to define the hardware resources.
After this selection, the Eicon software prepares the installation and copies
some files to the hard drive.
• After leaving the program by means of the function 'File-Exit', the program
will be closed. If the parameters were not saved, there will be an additional
request.
Status LOADED indicates, that the card could be started without errors.

Introduction
The 3Com PCI Ethernet card 3C905CX-TXM (no.: 01750045281) replaces the
previous PCI Ethernet card 3C905B-TX (no.: 01750019090). It has an RJ-45
port and is suitable for operation with unshielded twisted cables.
The drivers for this card are on the firmware / driver / utilities CD from Wincor
Nixdorf (version 1.0/14 and above) which is shipped with the card.

Driver software
The driver software that is part of the package is compatible both with the
3C905B-TX card and with the 3C905CX-TXM card. This means that the two
cards can be operated with the same driver versions. Note that the driver
software for the card depends on the operating system that is being used, and
has to be reinstalled if there is a change of OS. It will not be possible to simply
replace the card in every case.
As less and less ISA slots will be available in future PC generations, the PCI
token ring card 'Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode' replaces the present ISA cards
(part number: 9069501409 and 01750012715).

See the documentation of the various operating systems for the installation of
the different network drivers. You can find additional notes on the CD of the
LAN support software (see also the menu point 'Read the documentation' in
section "Start LAN support software").
i The Client32 software can not be used with the ISA cards. For that
reason, you can find an operational configuration which detects the
installed card automatically and loads the corresponding driver under
the following Intranet address.
http://intranet.wincor-
nixdorf.com/bd/HWSWSup/hw/lan_wan/index.htm#Token-Ringcards
• Select the entry 'DOS Multi-protocol support using Client 32' from the
'Install Disks' list and confirm the selection with the button [Action]. A DOS
installation diskette is produced.
• Copy the contents of this diskette into a directory on the hard disk (e. g.

All versions are prepared for the inclusion of MM-/CIM86 sensors. The sensors
are screwed. Due to a symmetric arrangement of the card insertion slot the
card reader can be installed in standard position or turned around by 180°. As
in former devices, functions such as detection of the card width, magnetic
track detection and shutter in the card transport route are also available.
To ensure that in case of a power failure the current function is terminated
properly, a capacitor can be built in as an option. The reaction to power
failures, however, can also be determined by the application.
The card reader features an internal memory for statistical data and a memory
for errors that occurred. This data can be read out and saved to a file.

The card tracks will only be evaluated when the card is inserted or pulled out.
The application software determines whether the card will be read when it is
inserted, pulled out or in both cases.
At the front of the card insertion slot there is a small window with 2 LEDs.
Meaning of red LED: Read error
Meaning of green LED: Read process faultless
In the idle state the green LED is lit. As soon as a card is inserted into the
track, the green LED will go out and light up again immediately after a faultless
reading process. When the card is pulled out, the LED is switched off as well,
and after a faultless reading process, the LED is switched on again.

Reading and writing during chip processing
Magnetic stripe
The card tracks can only be evaluated while the card is manually inserted or
pulled out. The application software determines if reading takes place when
the card is inserted or pulled out or in both instances.
Chip processing
When chip processing is activated, the card is locked inside the module by a
pin to prevent that the card is removed during processing.

Mounting position
The DIP hybrid reader can be built into systems horizontally or vertically.
If it is built in horizontally make sure that the ID card's magnetic stripe faces
down. This ensures that foreign objects (coins, for example) can fall directly
through the insertion slot into the device.
System connection
The hybrid reader is connected to the system via the V.24 interface
(RS 232 C).

General description
An ID card that is to be retained is transported to the card reject module to
prevent unauthorized access to the card. However, the application first checks
the card counter to determine that the reject cassette is not full.
A photosensor detects if an ID card is transported to the card reject module's
transport belt. The photosensor's signal starts the motor, the transport belts
start moving to transport the ID card into the reject cassette.
The motor stops automatically after running for about 8 seconds.

The MM code (MM = modulated feature) is printed on the front side of the ec
card. It is invisible, but can be read by the MM sensor. It is used to encode
certain data of the magnetic track. This data code is stored in field 20 of
magnetic track 3 when the card is manufactured.
After the ec card is inserted in the ATM, the data is encoded again in the MM
system and the result is compared with the stored code.
The MM / CIM 86 module can be tested with the test program KDIAG or, in
individual cases, with PDIAG.
All 11 test cards are requested successively.
Test card Remark
T 1, T 2 Check internal module parameter.
T3 Looks for external high-frequency spurious signals.
T4 Looks for external low-frequency spurious and noise signals.
T 5, T 6 Check the card transport speed.
T7 Checks the distance between sensor and ec card.
T 8, T 9 Checks the horizontal position of the sensor.
T 10 Checks the sensor’s sensitivity.
T 11 Helps to identify reflections in the card transport.
The result of the individual tests are displayed via KDIAG or PDIAG.
The EPP module (Encrypted PIN Pad) is used in PIN pads or combined
keyboards (see illustration below).
Description
The EPP module contains the following functional elements:
− Keyboard with numeric pad (0 to 9) and 4 function keys for entering the PIN
and carrying out transactions,
− keyboard logic including extensive security circuit components for software
protection and the secret keys used in case of tampering with the housing
and the electronics,
− functions for secure encryption and decryption of the transmitted
information.
The keys for entering the PIN, the evaluating logic and the encoding
electronics are accommodated in a tamperproof housing.
The baud rate can be switched from 19,200 to 38,400 via the application
software. At every turn-on the default of 19,200 baud is set.
Maintenance work
The EPP module can be tested and settings can be made by means of the
KDIAG test program.
During this test a message is sent for example if the battery voltage drops
below a defined threshold value. If this happens, replace the battery (see
section "Replacing the battery").
i The built-in lithium cell should be replaced every 5 years for security
reasons.
To be able to check battery life, the battery should be built-in in such a
way that the date of manufacture is readable.
How to proceed from here depends on the EPP type (V4 or V4+).
The procedure is described below for both types.

Structure
The touchscreen monitor consists of the standard LCD, the touch sensor
mounted on top of it and the controller with RS-232C interface. The power
(+ 8 V to + 15 V) is supplied via a cable.
Operation
The touch system employs the analogue-capacitive technology; it consists of a
glass plate with a fused-on transparent conductive thin film coating. An
additional glass coating protects the sensor. Thin electrodes are arranged
along the edges which create a uniform low voltage AC field over the
conducting layer.
When touching the monitor surface with the finger, the capacitive coupling with
the electric field causes a brief electrical current flow to the point of contact.
The electrical current from each point of contact is proportional to the distance
of the finger to the edges. The controller measures this ratio, on the basis of
which it determines the point of contact and signals its position via the
interface to the PC.
1 2
The LED is lit as soon as the controller is provided with voltage. After receiving
a valid command, the LED becomes weaker. A touch of the sensor is indicated
by a brightly shining LED. The LED flashes if the power-on self-test reveals a
problem.
If one of these errors appears, the controller is faulty. The complete monitor
must be replaced.

The thermal (matrix) printer ND9C / ND9G (ND9E) is a modular printer with a
thermal (matrix) printing unit, integrated cutter and the presenter for variable
receipt length. The paper path is controlled by several paper sensors.
The following description contains no information on the normal operation of
the printer. You can find this information in the operating manual of the cash-
out system. Installation and removal are described in the service manual of the
respective device.
Unlike the ND9C and ND9E, which are text-oriented printers, the receipt
printer ND9G can only print graphical representations (pixel-oriented).
Power supply
The printer is operated with 24 V DC. The 5 V voltage for the logic is
generated internally.
Data interface
The serial data interface (V.24 / RS232) is connected to the COM channel
defined in the cash or terminal system.

Key functions
Power on
When switching on the printer (e. g. by connecting the V 24 plug) some special
settings can be executed with certain keys before the mechanical initialization
starts.
Pressed keys Function
None Normal turn-on characteristics of the printer.
TEST The internal test will be switched on.
FEED Forms control is enabled using mark detection.
TEST+FEED Parameters are set to standard values, NVRAM is saved.
Normal operation
By pressing keys during normal operation of the printer (no test mode, no error
handling) it is possible to give some functions a higher priority. Key functions
launch functions in mechanical control via a priority interface and are executed
with a higher priority than the functions launched from the emulation. It is up to
the user to ensure that normal operation of the emulation functions is not
hindered or falsified by key-launched functions.
Pressed keys Function
None None
TEST None
FEED Paper feed by 1/6 inch.
If the key is pressed longer, the continuous paper feed
will start until the key combination is changed.
TEST+FEED Initiates a paper feed.
i Paper feeds initiated by key functions leave the form position in the
emulation unchanged. When the form is output without mark control,
the output form is lengthened in keeping with the paths traversed.
Internal test
After starting the internal test (see section "Internal test") the selection mode is
activated. By pressing the keys the internal test can be controlled.
Pressed key Mode Function
None None
TEST Selection mode: If the key is pressed for less than 2
seconds, the execution mode will be
switched on and the test function will be
started (if valid). If the key is pressed for
more than 2 seconds, the test mode will
be turned off.
Execution The selection mode is turned on and the
mode: test function is turned off.
FEED Selection mode: Increment selection of test function: none
Execution
mode:
TEST+FEED None
Internal test
The print controller provides a test program divided into different test levels.
This program facilitates the check of the main printer functions.
The test mode is started when the TEST button is pressed at power on.
The controller disables the interface when starting the internal test. After
termination of the internal test the printer is initialized, the interface is re-
enabled and the 'power failure' message is issued.
The test levels 1 to 4 are general test functions which can be helpful in
diagnosing a fault. They can also be initiated when error handling is active.
The test levels 5 to 7 use functions of the emulation and can only be selected
and executed when paper has been loaded and the printer is online. Test
levels 5 and 6 turn the mark control off. Test level 7 turns the mark control on.
This setting is not saved. When the test mode is terminated, the firmware is
restarted and a complete initialization performed.
Automatic paper feeding in test mode is not possible. When paper sensors are
tested, a feed operation is started when paper is detected in paper-out
condition at BoF (PE). Feeding is suppressed, because no initialization of the
device control is carried out when the test mode is started, and thus paper
feeding is not enabled.
Abbreviation Meaning
0 LED is off
1 LED is on
Errors
In the case of an error test levels, which use functions from the emulation -
(print output, paper positioning), are no longer practicable. Activated test levels
will be terminated in case of an error. The program is in the error handling
routine, which can only be terminated by switching the power supply off/on.
Test levels that query the photosensors can still be used in case of an error.
Paper control
In the printer, the BoF and ToF photosensors are used for positioning. The PrE
and PrA photosensors are used in the presenter. Paper feeding is carried out
exclusively by the stepper motor for transport in the printer. When the paper
reaches the photosensor ToF or the presenter, the stepper motor in the
presenter is driven in addition. When the paper is ejected after a cut, only the
stepper motor in the presenter is driven.
The minimum paper length which is cut off at feeding in and the minimum
distance of the marks on the paper has to be large enough as to ensure
secure paper feeding in the printer at all times.
Mark detection
The marks on the paper are detected with enabled mark control and enabled
mark detection during forward paper feeding. If the paper is fed backwards
with mark detection enabled, a function-disabled counter for mark detection is
incremented for this distance. As long as a value is in the function-disabled
counter, no mark detection is carried out. Thus, the furthest selected mark is
always used for synchronization. When mark detection is enabled, the two
photosensors MK1 and MK2 are activated for mark monitoring. Photosensor
MK1 is given the highest priority. When the beginning of the mark is securely
detected by a photosensor, the other photosensor is switched off.
Synchronization on a mark takes place when the rear mark edge is detected. If
the length of a mark is exceeded, an error message' mark error' is issued, and
mark detection disabled. The mark is on the printable side of the receipt.
Reset at power on
This paper initialization is performed at power on or for the emulation
commands CANCEL and INIT if error handling is active. The paper
initialization sets the paper in the printer to print position.
When the printer is switched on, mark detection is disabled. The details of the
paper initialization depend on the paper in the printer, messages saved in
NVRAM (‘Paper error' and ‘Receipt printed’), power-on behavior (‘Default’ and
‘Special’) and switched-on mark control.
If there is no paper in the printer, the pending messages ‘Paper error’ and
‘Receipt printed’ are deleted and saved in NVRAM. End of paper is reported
and paper initialization is ended. The paper is set to print position with an
automatic feed.
If paper is in the printer and the message ‘Paper error’ is set, a previous paper
feed error has not been cleared. In that case, the paper feed error is reported
again and paper initialization is aborted. 'Paper jam at presenter' is set in the
status information, and the emulation goes offline. Error handling for paper
feed errors is activated.
If paper is in the printer and the message ‘Receipt printed’ is set, a previously
printed receipt has not been output. The handling of the printer receipt is
determined by the setting of the power-on behavior.
Form feed
If the data buffer still contains data, form feed initiates a printout. If both the
print position and the line position are on the left margin of the 1st line (ToF),
the command is ignored. Whether the function is continued depends on the
setting of the mark control. After finishing the paper feed, the new form length
is set and the position in the form is on the first print line on the left margin.
Print control
i This section applies only to the printers ND9C and ND9G.
Print intensity
The print intensity setting makes it possible to adjust for the printer paper
being used. The print intensity can be set in eight levels and is saved
permanently after each change in NVRAM. In keeping with the setting for the
print intensity, the maximal switch-on time for the heating elements is reduced
in steps of 6% depending on the temperature measured at the print head.
Mark control
Eject
i This section applies only to the printers ND9C and ND9G.
If there is no paper in the printer, the function is ignored. If there is paper in the
printer, the paper is fed backwards (maximum feeding length is the eject
length). When the leading edge of the paper is detected by ToF, the distance
from the ToF to the BoF is moved in backward direction. Then the printer waits
until the paper is removed. The function is terminated if no paper is detected.
Then the printer is in the paper-out status and a new paper roll can be loaded
using the automatic feed feature.
Paper out
Paper-out detection
The status of the PVE photosensor is reported to the host as 'paper out'
message. The message does not have any influence on the operation of the
paper control.
Paper-low detection
The status of the PWE photosensor is reported to the host as paper low
status. The message is used to determine the last print jobs. The message
does not have any influence on the operation of the paper control.
Mark errors
If a mark that is too large is detected at the mark detection, the mark error
status is reported internally, and the mark detection is disabled.
If no mark is found when searching for a mark, the mark error status is
reported internally and mark detection remains active.
If the internal mark error status occurs with the feed or form feed functions,
mark error is entered in the status information and the emulation is set offline.
Error handling is not activated.
Error handling
During an error handling procedure, the device control is disabled for
commands from the emulation. Starting functions in the device control via the
keypad is possible.
When an error handling is started, the emulation is switched offline and all
edited print data is lost. This is necessary because an emulation function can
be blocked while waiting for a free bitmap, thus hindering further processing of
emulation commands.
If CANCEL or INIT is executed in the emulation during error handling, the
active error handling is terminated and the device control is initialized
according to the switching-on procedure. Commands waiting in the job buffer
for the device control are destroyed during the initialization.

Functions
When the power is turned on, the firmware is started. The keys that are
pressed at power-on define the start conditions for the firmware. The
permanent parameters are loaded and the relevant settings made.
The firmware is not operable if an error is found during the test of external
storage or during initialization of the emulation. In this case, the firmware is
halted and it is no longer possible to communicate via the interface.
Power-on procedure
After the power is turned on, the printer is initialized. The following functions
are executed during the initialization:
− Processor initialization
− Memory test
− Define start conditions,
− Load values from parameter memory
− Execute mechanical reset (not in test mode),
− Establish ready state (not in test mode).
Module monitoring
If the power-on process detects missing firmware or an incorrect character set,
the boot loader remains active.
If incorrect IDs are detected for hardware and character set during the
firmware power-on process, a substitute processing loop that only permits
communications via interface and emulation in exceptions is launched.
Operation is not possible via the keyboard, nor can mechanical processes be
executed.
Status indicators
The journal printer status is indicated by three LEDs. The statuses of the
individual LEDs are identified by the following abbreviations:
Abbreviation Status
0 LED is off
1 LED is on
X LED can be on or off
bl LED blinks (approx. 2 Hz)
LL Moving light display

The key functions are triggered via a spontaneous Functions job channel in
the device controller and are executed with higher priority than the functions
from the emulation. For this reason, the user should not hamper or corrupt
emulation functions during operations by executing key functions.
Internal test
Following activation of the internal test the selection mode is active. Individual
keys are pressed to control the internal test.
Keys pressed Function
TEST The TEST key is used to start the internal test, to start
the test levels and to complete them.
FEED The FEED key is used to select the individual test

Internal test
• Press the TEST key when you switch the printer on and wait until all LEDs
go off. When you release the key, the printer is in the selection level for the
internal test (all LEDs blinking).
• Select a test using the FEED key (see section "Indicators for the selected
test level") and start the test by pressing the TEST key.
• Exit the test level by pressing the TEST key. The printer returns to the
selection level (all LEDs blinking).
• Exit the internal tests by pressing the TEST key for more than 2 seconds at
the selection level.
When entering the internal test, the controller disables the V.24 interface. After
completion of the internal test, the printer is initialized, the interface is enabled
again and the 'power failure' message is provided.

sensors 'Home position', 'Timing 1' and 'Timing 2' are displayed. The status
changes of the sensors are indicated by the LEDs lighting up.
LED Function
Green Home position
Yellow Timing 1
Red Timing 2
At level 4, the printer test is executed. For this test, paper must be inserted, or
the program will return to the test selection level without a message. The
printer identifies itself as journal printer NDxx. This is followed by n lines with
information on reference number, program version, etc. Then 20 lines are
printed with the character ‘H’ in order to test the symmetry of the print image.
A test staircase is then printed to test the pins on the print head. This is
followed by a test of the line feed, outputting 6 lines at 6 lpi. The test ends by
printing out the standard character set at 4 different pitches. The test is
terminated automatically after one run (return to the test selection level without
message).
If an error occurs
If an error occurs the program exits the test level to enter the error handling
mode which can only be exited by switching the printer off and on.
Paper control
Paper is fed in a forward direction only. It is not possible to feed paper
backwards, as this would impair remaining paper management when end of
paper has been recognized.
Inserting paper
Paper is inserted manually into the printer’s paper channel and transported to
the print position by pressing the FEED key.
Insertion of the paper must be followed by an initialization of the paper
monitoring. This is achieved by issuing the CANCEL command or releasing
the FEED key (not in test mode).
The status messages 'Paper out and 'Paper torn' are only canceled if paper is
detected at the paper-out sensor upon initialization of paper monitoring.
− If no paper is detected at the paper-out sensor and if there is still
i some paper left, the CANCEL command is used or the FEED key
is released to delete the remaining paper counter. In this case, a
subsequent print job or form feed generates an error.
− Paper monitoring is not initialized if the paper is inserted manually
without the FEED key being pressed or the CANCEL command
sent immediately afterwards.
− If the paper is fed into position by pressing the FEED key several
times, paper monitoring is initialized the first time the FEED key is
released and 'Paper out' is no longer reported to the system. If the
system is waiting for paper in order to continue with existing print
jobs, it is possible to print during operator intervention.
Error handling
Error indicators
Error displays are shown once only. They are output at the start of error
handling.
Green Yellow Red Status
Off Off Blinking Device error
On Off Blinking Error at printout
Off On Blinking Print head too hot
On On Blinking Paper feed error / paper jam
Offline status
The offline status was identified by the error bit set in the status byte. When an
offline status occurs, the printer waits for the status inquiry 'Esc v'. The printer
goes online again by the status inquiry. The error messages are not deleted by
the status inquiry. If the offline status is ignored and further print jobs are sent
to the printer, they will be destroyed (data loss). The bit 'loss of job' will then be
set in the extended error message, and the printer will remain offline.
After an error has occurred, the cause must be cleared by a CANCEL or INIT
command. Depending on the error, an operator intervention may first be
required. The printer resets after the CANCEL and INIT command, and the
error bit in the status byte and the error messages in the extended error
message are updated.
Command monitoring
If an error occurs while a command is being processed, the error bit is set in
the status byte (Esc 'v'). The fault causes are indicated in the extended error
message (data request, extended error message). The proper execution of the
command can be monitored by querying the status byte and, if necessary, the
extended error message after every command. The printer goes offline when
an error condition occurs.
Paper-low message
The paper-low message is issued at the latest at a remaining number of
approx. 1800 lines (at 6 lpi). The message is only transferred in the status byte
(Esc 'v') and has no influence on the printer control.
Paper-out message
The end-of-paper sensor is provided in the status byte (Esc 'v'). After detection
of the end of the paper supply, 15 lines (6 lpi) can still be printed. If these
values are exceeded, the user error bit is set in the extended error message
and the printer goes offline. When the end of paper is indicated, the operator
must load a new roll of paper. A CANCEL or INIT must then be carried out by
the system to reset the printer. If a CANCEL command is issued at end of
paper before the remaining 15 lines have been printed, the printer can no
longer continue printing , since the counter for the remaining lines has been
deleted. In this case, the printer can only be used again after inserting a new
roll of paper.
Controller
The central control of the printer is implemented by an 16-bit microcontroller
that is compatible with the Intel 8051. To comply with the required range of
functions, the following function blocks are integrated in the controller:
Memory
− 128 KByte flash memory with boot sector for firmware and character
generators
− 32 KByte SRAM
− 256 bit NVRAM

The TH30 journal printer is a modular roll printer. It consists of a print module,
a control unit, a paper holder and a winder. The individual modules are
assembled on a mounting plate which contains the controller. The mounting
plate includes the interface connector, the power supply connector, the
controls and status indicators.
The following description contains no information on the normal operation of
the printer. You can find this information in the operating manual of the cash-
out or terminal system. Installation and removal of the printer are described in
the chapter "Installation/Removal of Components".
Power supply
The printer is operated with 24 V DC. The 5 V voltage for the logic is
generated internally.
Data interface
The serial data interface (V.24 / RS232) is connected to the COM channel
defined in the cash or terminal system.

If the power-on process detects missing firmware or an incorrect character set,
the bootloader remains active.
0 LED is off
1 LED is on
x LED can be on or off
bl LED blinks (approx. 2 Hz)
LL Moving light display
Indicators at power-on
Green Yellow Red Status
1 1 1 Hardware fault (fatal)
LL LL LL No operable firmware available
(bootloader active)
bl bl bl Test mode (selection level)
In case of a hardware error no functions can be executed. This status can only
be interrupted by switching the power off and on.
Functions of keys
Switch-on
By pressing certain keys when switching on the printer prior to the start of the
mechanical initialization, functions for special settings can be executed.

TEST + FEED Parameters are set to standard values, NVRAM (non-
volatile RAM) is saved.
Normal operation
Pressing individual keys when the printer is in normal operational mode will
give priority to the execution of certain functions.

FEED Paper feed by 1/6" (4.23 mm). If the key is pressed for
more than 2 seconds, the paper is fed continuously
until the key combination is changed.
The key functions are triggered via a spontaneous Functions job channel in
the device controller and are executed with higher priority than the functions
from the emulation. For this reason, the user should not hamper or corrupt
emulation functions during operations by executing key functions.
Internal test
Following activation of the internal test (see section "Internal test"), selection
mode is active. Individual keys are pressed to control the internal test.
Keys pressed Function
TEST The TEST key is used to start the internal test, to start
the test levels and to complete them.
FEED The FEED key is used to select the individual test
levels during the internal test.
TEST + FEED None
After completion of the internal test, the printer is initialized, the interface is
enabled again and the 'power failure' message is provided.
Meaning:
0 = OFF
1 = ON
At level 1, the two paper sensors 'paper out' and 'paper low' are displayed on
activation. The order in which they are to be tested is not specified. The LED
lights up to indicate a sensor status change.
LED Function
Green Paper out
Yellow Paper low
Test level 2
Test level 3
At level 4, the printer test is executed. For this test, paper must be inserted, or
the program will return to the test selection level without a message. The
printer identifies itself as journal printer TH30. This is followed by n lines with
information on reference number, program version, etc. Then 20 lines are
printed with the character 'H' in order to test the symmetry of the print image.
A test staircase is then printed to test the thermal printing unit. This is followed
by a test of the line feed, outputting 6 lines at 6 lpi. The test ends by printing
out the standard character set at 4 different pitches. The test is terminated
automatically after one run (return to the test selection level without message).
Errors
The status messages 'Paper out and 'Paper torn' are only canceled if paper is
detected at the 'paper out' sensor upon initialization of paper monitoring.
− If no paper is detected at the 'paper-out sensor and if there is still
i some paper left, the CANCEL command is used or the FEED key
is released to delete the remaining paper counter.
On Off Blinking
Off Off Blinking Paper torn
Off On Blinking
On On Blinking Print head too hot
The paper-low message is issued at the latest at a remaining number of
approx. 900 lines (at 6 lpi). The message is only transferred in the status byte
(Esc 'v') and has no influence on the printer control.
Paper-out message
The paper-out sensor is provided in the status byte (Esc 'v'). After detection of
the end of the paper supply, 15 lines (6 lpi) can still be printed. If these values
are exceeded, the user error bit is set in the extended error message and the
printer goes offline. When the end of paper is indicated, the operator must load
a new roll of paper. A CANCEL or INIT must then be carried out by the system
to reset the printer. If a CANCEL command is issued at end of paper before
the remaining 15 lines have been printed, the printer can no longer continue
printing , since the counter for the remaining lines has been deleted. In this
case, the printer can only be used again after inserting a new roll of paper.

• Release the connector lock and disconnect the connector from the operator
panel.
i If only the label strip of the lower key block must be changed, it is
sufficient to remove the lower cap.
Switching on
As soon as the supply voltage is applied, the operator panel switches on
automatically and performs a power-on routine with an internal test.
A beep sounds at the beginning and at the end of this test. The device is ready
to operate after completion of the test.
i If the used connecting cable is not suitable for operation with lighting
(usually in systems that were delivered until the end of 1998), the
following display appears:
Cable without 12/24V
If an error occurred during the internal test, the red Service LED is lit, provided
that it is not disabled by the application.
i Replace the device if the error keeps occurring after the unit has been
switched on repeatedly.
Operation
In the operating mode, the operation of the operator panel including the LED
indicators is taken over by the application.
In the high end and low end mode, the function of the key-operated switch is
shown on the upper two function keys (F5 and F6) to the left of the display.
This can be made clear by using the enclosed labeling strip.
F5 (1st key from top) = key-operated switch ON
F6 = key-operated switch OFF
Display lighting
With the operator panel 01750018100 it is possible to activate an LCD
background lighting. This requires a cable which supplies the operator panel
with 12 V or 24 V.
The lighting is activated after switching on, and 10 minutes after activation or
the last time a key was pressed it switches to save mode. In order to reach the
max. MTBF of the display, it is recommended that the lighting not be activated
constantly.
The lighting can be switched on again by activating the keyboard, by V.24
lighting jobs and by using keys.
The effect of key acknowledgements on the lighting or the output of key codes
in the individual OP modes is shown in the following table.

Safety precautions
− Unplug the plower plug of the UPS before installing the UPS computer
interface cable. Reconnect the power cord only after all signal connections
have been restored.
− The UPS is equipped with an internal energy source (battery).
The current output is active even if the device is not connected to the
power supply.
− Press the OFF button for at least one second to interrupt the power supply
of the UPS so that the UPS is turned off. Then disconnect the power plug
of the UPS. Finally, disconnect the power supply by the battery.
Special settings
The settings are made by pressing the configuration button on the back side of
the UPS with a pointed object (e.g. a ballpoint pen). The settings change by
one value within the adjustment range each time the button is pressed.
Voltage threshold
normal
reduced
low
The UPS senses irregularities in the line voltage like voltage peaks, black-
outs, under- and overvoltages as well as distortions which are caused by fuel-
driven generators of moderate quality. The UPS reacts to irregularities by
utilising the battery to protect the devices. The UPS changes to battery
operation more frequently if the current is of bad quality. If the devices function
normally under these conditions, battery performance and capacity can be
improved by lowering the UPS sensitivity.
i Press the configuration button and hold down the ON/Test button on
the device front at the same time to change this setting.
The UPS is pre-set so that you are warned two minutes before the battery runs
out. If this warning time is not sufficient in the application, it can be set to a
higher value.

The function of the heating unit can also be checked if the temperature is
above 8 °C. For this purpose press the key integrated in the electronic control.
While it is pressed, it is checked whether a sensor is connected and whether
the power supply is switched through to the heating elements. If the sensor is
not connected, the heat is not turned on even if the key is pressed.
Pressing the test button turns on the heat automatically for five minutes.
