Ukraine is a large country in the heart of Europe. It is a place of mountains and

lowlands, forests and steppes, seas, rivers, lakes and marshes. Its territory is 603, 700
sq km.

The country is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It has more than
3,000 lakes. The Schatski Lakes, including beautiful Lake Switiaz, are the most
picturesque. Ukraine’s longest river is the Dnipro.

Our country is famous for its forests and steppes with beautiful scenery. They
are home to many plants, such as the pine, the oak, the birch, the feather grass, steppe
tulips as well as animals including the deer, the wolf, the hare, the wild boar and
many others. Most forests are in Polissia and the Carpathians, while the steppes are in
the south-east.

There are two mountain ranges in Ukraine – the marvellous Carpathian and
Crimean Mountains. Mount Hoverla (2,061) is the highest peak in the country. Our
country has 5% of the world’s mineral resources. It is rich in coal, iron, granite and
marble.

All in all, Ukraine is a wonderful place of picturesque nature and rich mineral
resources. It is also a place of hospitable, friendly and hard-working people.
