Sound

In built camera mic: The microphone within a camera used to record audio whilst filming at
the same time. These are often bad quality and don’t capture much sound.

Camera mounted mic: A mounted mic is a microphone designed to join to the camera itself.
It is a lightweight and easy microphone to use in connection with a DSLR.

Lav mic: A lav mic is a tiny microphone that typically attaches to a phone or camera to
capture audio. These microphones can capture speech from people as they can be worn and
hidden within a shot. These are often used for interviews or theatre.

Zoom recorder: A zoom recorder is a microphone used to capture sound outside of a studio
setting. These are handheld microphones that are intentionally spoken into to record audio.
Boom mic: Boom mic’s can capture intricate sound close to the subject, often used in wider
shots. They work by a person holding up the stick to follow the sounds wanted. They are
microphones that hover over the subject but remain out of shot, these are commonly used
in productions.

Isolation shield: A microphone with a sound shield to give a clean and smooth sound, best
used when focussing on a specific sound such as a voiceover. These microphones reduce
sound reflection to keep the sound clear and improve your studio recording effect.
